Description
Fair warning...disorganization is my specialty.I'm in the process of making a Sailor Moon classic brooch tutorial and I'd like to make the rest of them too...but I think I'm going to have to experiment with resin for some of them because clay just wouldn't have the same effect ._.
If anyone wants to leave comments on something that worked better for them, I'd love to put them in the description (giving you full credit of course) so that others can learn from your tips!
has suggested that if you use thicker paint, you can add water at a ratio of 1:1 to get rid of brushstrokes!

If you were to use this for a costume, how would you attach the broach to the costume? I've made mine, but I'm not sure what now.

Well what I would do is purchase those brooch pins you can buy at craft stores like Hobby Lobby or Michael's and attach via epoxy 'course, if you ever planned to make any other brooches, smushing it into the clay before baking may be easier than attaching it later.
I had meant to put something like that in my tutorials, but I consistently forget to buy the pins, sorry about that!

I've just started making the original manga brooch in clay and I've gone over all three of your wonderful tutorials for tips :3 I'm following diffierent steps from each of them to make mine so thank you <3
Could I ask where it is that you got your metallic pigments, though? Having trouble finding some |D

Thanks, I'm glad you found them helpful
I got the metallic pigments from Hobby Lobby, but they should have them at Michael's or probably any variety of craft stores. Check the clay aisle and the scrapbooking section...that's where I always manage to find some Otherwise there are always online sites too!

if you thin your paint with water, the ratio depending on the brand -curses folkart for not being normal paint- then you wont have those brush strokes, idk how you feel about them but i hate when i make some pretty and the paint IMO fucks its up >.<

I thought about doing that actually (after I made this brooch, since it was the first one I painted) but I remember a few times when I mixed my acrylics with water and it ended up being kind of crackly. So I guess it probably works with some paint, but apparently not all! Another problem I would have with that is that since I use black clay, the paint would be transparent and I need it to be opaque. So I should keep white clay in mind next time I need to stock up But thanks for the tip!

it doesn't become transparent when you add water, it pretty much stays the same. if you add 1:1 ratio of paint to water then you should be fine.
