Description Look at that, he still works digitally as well!

This is a rather quick piece that I did this week. Should be about 10 - 11 hours. The whole painting was pretty much there after 7 hours, but I wanted to polish it a bit and add a few details. Whoever coined the phrase that the last 10% of a piece take 90% of the work time, was right on the money.

Anyhow, I hope you guys enjoy it. I got a nice matte print of the 7-hour state in front of me here, and I have to say it looks pretty nice. So treat yourself and check out the print, as soon as it is up!

Heya...thanks a lot for this critique. I'm very sorry that I'm replying so late, I just didn't have much time for dA lately.
It's very nice to hear that you are able to get so much into the piece and perceive the mood so strongly.
However, I do not really agree, that I should refine the background rocks...because the whole point of the piece was to start out rather abstractly and then refine only the important parts, those where I want my focus to be...which is the fortress. That's why all the details go there. The forground rocks though I could probably have made better, that's correct. I more or less had a deadline, so I had to concentrate on the main part, I think.
You are quite right though, that it could need some detailing. I think if I was to do that piece again today, I would break up some of these surfaces more and add more details to them

In any case, thanks a lot, your thoughts are much appreciated!
Daniel

Hey there, Daniel! ^^ I was browsing through the confines of dA's more conceptual-type pieces and I happened across this amazing piece of yours. I have a small general arts group called S.D.G.ART and I would be honored if you were to perhaps join us and let us see some more of your awesome works of art, my friend.

Take care,

~Sage

Thank you so much for the compliments, I am glad you liked my work =] But to be honest I am not joining any groups, I am already not able to keep up with my messages as is, and groups would certainly not help with that
Feel free to include my images in the group gallery, whenever I submit anything, but with how little time I find to paint, this happens only ever so often

I completely understand, friend. ^^ And, yes, if I see any of your work, I'd be more than just thrilled to have it in our featured folder- I would be enamored. Such beauty- it makes me want to try my hand at painting.. but then I realize that I'm better at writing so I choose to stick to lit'. Regardless, art would not be the same without talented people like yourself, friend. Keep up the good work!

Hehe thanks a lot Yeah when I painted the buildings, I certainly tried to make them react to the light properly...it's just so much fun to cast light into a scene
Glad you liked it!

This is way too cool Dan I like how things are more contrasted in the foreground, and how the buildings down the back are sort of set into the mountain . I like the bit of purlpe here and there as well sweet work!
Oh and i really like how you have some fine detail in some places and others are really speedy sketched, I just love that and wish I could reflect it in my own work too.

Keep it up
Chad.

Hey Chad, thanks a bunch Yeah this was quite a fun piece to do, really, and I think I learned a bit about implying detail versus leaving some areas rather rough. And maybe a bit of the fun I had is showing through

Thanks! Hope things are going well for you?

memod In reply to ArtemColoria [2010-05-25 13:11:50 +0000 UTC]
