You ever done that thing where you look up a character's voice actor and trace them through IMDB? Just tried to do that for Hal, aka Douglas Rain, and I've gotta say it was NOT easy. The guy's been in a bunch of TV movies from the 60s I can't find.
Long story short, I give you a documentary from 1960 called Universe. If the special effects look familiar, it's because Stanley Kubrik used them as a template for 2001. If the narrator's voice sounds familiar, it's because Stanley Kubrik hired him to play the homocidal computer we all know and love.
