Description This is from the Fushimi Inari Temple in Kyoto Japan taken on our day trip in Kyoto look at my gallery for more pictures from my Japan trip in October 2010.
The fox in Japanese culture is very prominent in stories. The fox is honored for cleverness and his favorite food is fried tofu, which now can be found as a common sushi dish of fried tofu covering rice which is called Inari. This shrine is called Fushimi inari in honor of the fox.

This temple is famous for its torii gates. It originally began where businesses would pay to have their names/businesses carved and made in the torii gate for good luck. There are around or ober 1000 torii gates, it took my dad and I 3 hours to hike up and around the mountain this is on and we didn't even go down all of the paths.
