Oh my, it seems life has not been so kind to these two ladies. Both in looks and personality.
The one in the back appears to be fairly irritable, probably a rambunctious old bag, like some of the patients I had to care for in my days as a candystriper at the nursing homes. She's quick to judge, forever arguing over any silly thing that's brought up, and is difficult to please. Like my [now deceased] grandmother, she's probably not easy to be around, but she finds company in others who are lonely and willing to put up with the constant negative droning.
The lady in the front is the more approachable of the two; she's not too unlike her companion, but still just pleasant enough to be tolerable. There's an air of self-importance about her, and I imagine she spends much of her time comparing others to herself, telling them how they should live their lives in order to be more like her. Her sneer suggests she's doing such a thing right now; saying how so-and-so was doing something that society looks down on, and how if she were the one involved, things would be much different.
I only just came across your gallery a short time ago, and I am simply transfixed by your works. There's so much soul to them, they come across in such a real context. The characters are so believable; it's like looking at society through some sort of lens that depicts people as what they are on the inside.

I think you're quite right about these two cantankerously confronting hoary bags. Do you think the front lady goes EVEN so far in her judgment as to be criticising even the back lady at whom she is presently talking..?
I love what you say in the last paragraph about this art showing what's on the inside, and again, couldn't put it better myself...

I have a new DA name...yet again. My endless identity crisis has provided me with numerous peculiar aliases. RedRidingHood, Anonymous, Immunity... Now Captain Vohlf. I should start drawing them as
characters that symbolize the personas I held at each time. Seems they are becoming more 'dangerous' sounding. I like 'dangerous sounding.' ...what was I babbling about...OH YES. Thank you for the recent call and I hope you enjoy my letters.
In regards to this piece: What a couple of unpleasant, gossiping old bitties. The taller of them seems like she would have been pretty younger. Heh, I imagine these were witnessed and fell victim to your humorous penwork at a local coffee shop. Well done.
