application to the group #TalesofDevotia where you make a Tales-y character and do stuff and RP your character. i tried to make him look very Tales-style xD his design is inspired by the Inomata designs c: but its also inspired from Native American-type clothing and art. it took a long time to finalize a design that really "stuck" for him but i think i finally got it *is terribly slow with designing characters* xP most of my characters dont have designs D: cause i suck at them lol

anyways... about the character...

this is Toto c: which may be short for Tototl or Totoba, though he calls himself Tototl and denies that Totoba is his name at all. "Tototl" means "bird" in Nahuatl. "Totoba" is a name from an old myth about the battle of day and night where an owl named Totoba, who represented the night, lost in a battle against a rabbit, which represented the daylight.

Toto's past is a complicated story that even he isnt sure of ((and ill be keeping it a secret until its revealed in-RP)). Toto believes that he had previously died, but then escaped from the underworld ((a place he calls "Xibalba")) to become a god of the forest. he seems scared of the ruler of Xibalba coming to the surface world in order to return him to Metnal, the deepest, darkest part of the underworld. Toto does not seem to remember what his life was like before he died, but he does consider other "Xibalbans" as "stupid", always outsmarting his way out of bad situations where he is attacked by an evil dark wolf who is repeatedly sent after him. after escaping Xibalba, he makes his home in a forest in the northernmost island of Matrei. this is where he stays for a length of time he believes to be around 60 years, and so he claims to everyone that he is 60 years in age. he takes shelter in a cave within the forest where he draws designs on the wall representing every day of his life, but there are only 8 years worth of designs - not 60. still, he is convinced hes a 60-year-old god, though he resembles a human.

for a while before the beginning of his first appearance in the Devotia story, everything worked out fine and he lived alone rather peacefully. this was rather successful... until his luck started to run out and he was confronted by a large monster that was a bit too strong for him. he was badly injured and had to nurse himself back to health, but the injury prevented him from hunting and filling his stomach. with the wildlife of the forest suddenly being too strong for him, he had to resort to thievery from innocents who were traveling on a road through the forest ((and this is where he meets Levine. he tried to attack to steal her food, but loses the battle)). because his luck has run out, Toto finds himself being very dependent on others for survival, even though he will completely deny it and detest that fact ((everyone around him would quickly figure out the truth, though 8V)). however, after beginning to travel with Levine, he talks to Norman about why hes traveling with the group and decides he needed to explore the world more in order to be a better forest god to protect his forest.

personality-wise, Toto is very stubborn and hot-headed, never afraid to speak whats on his mind. but at the same time, he has a childlike playful streak in him and can be a practical jokester. he may say he prefers to live alone, but something about traveling with other people is fun for him, especially if theyre well-humored. serious characters will likely hate his guts and think hes extremely annoying. hes a dominant personality and hates being bossed around and being told what to do. politically, he is more like an anarchist and hates governments, taxes and laws since he would rather follow his own rules rather than the rules of somebody else. in his words, he describes it as being "ideologically claustrophobic" to have laws, which is similar to his secret fear of small spaces ((hes literally claustrophobic, too)). when in small spaces, itll give Toto an extreme sense of anxiety and will have a completely different personality from his typical self. he will avoid these situations at all costs in an attempt to not making himself appear weak in front of his companions. there is a reason in his past for why he is claustrophobic ((though doesnt know the reason himself)) but symbolically, it may be because he is such a free spirit who wants to do anything he wants that anything besides wide-open land is bad for his soul.

he has the potential of becoming a tragic character due to his private beliefs that he has to be ideologically different from the rest of society or he would become a "slave" or a "drone" of governments, rules and societal laws. he has an extreme fear of being controlled, so he is actually rather phobic of being a law-abiding citizen. he refuses to give himself up to the rest of the world, and with his luck bank almost empty and his limited strength, this could lead to a lot of bad things in his future. he can be a bit neurotic and sociopathic when it comes to this topic since he imagines himself living in a world that isnt real. his imagination is always working and its extremely vast. whenever there is something he doesnt know, he has the imaginative power to come up with an instantaneous answer as if he knew it all along. the answer may or may not always be correct, but he always believes it to be correct.

Toto is quite a thrill-seeker and a daredevil who will do dangerous things simply BECAUSE they are dangerous, and that makes them fun to him. however, Toto knows his limits just enough that he gets out of his little ventures unscathed, and perhaps he does have a bit of a lucky streak with his life. because of his luck, he has generally been able to easily squeeze out of sticky situations. however, the cost of being overly lucky is the lack of an ability to really learn from his mistakes. this makes him quite cocky and a smartass. he has no reason to have any other personality since he never learned to need anything else.

Toto really loves feathers and will collect any type of feather he sees, such as after a battle with a feathered monster. he also really loves paint and pigments. no, he doesnt like to paint in particular... he just likes the colors of some kinds of pigments and will smear it on his weapon, belt, headband and sometimes his feathers simply because he likes to. he makes most of his paints himself and theyre washable, so he will have different paint colorations depending on his moods and what he feels like expressing. he also is strongly interested in symbolism, particularly of designs and colors ((for more on Toto's symbols, visit here: [link] )). most of his chosen outfit has a lot of meaning to him and each little part symbolizes something about his self, his past and his beliefs. this deep interest in symbols has made him be the type to "read between the lines" and not always listen to what someone is saying but how they say it. he wants to know the deeper meaning of what was said. hes very perceptive about people and his environment as he is always searching for the truth and the meanings behind them. he also has an intense love for old myths, songs and short stories as he always tries to find the meanings that went into creating them. he tends to take any of the meanings he discovers as truths about the world as it is.

Toto's favorite food is cheese, but he hates vegetables.

battle-wise... Toto is a glass canon type, so hes fast and has good power but takes a lot of damage in a single hit from an enemy. he holds his weapon in his right hand and will utilize kicks in battle as well. i see his fighting style as a mix of Reid, Luke, Karol and a little bit of Yuri, but with a lot of speed. however, in the rare chance you were to meet him in his dreams, you will meet the self he sees himself as and his abilities are way more expansive, diverse and powerful as his dream self IS his "god self" where he has a similar appearance but unlocks his "true abilities" when he is seen with golden-colored eyes.

-one legend of the saw-whet owl speaks of how the saw-whet wished to have brilliant red feathers, but was given brown feathers instead for being so annoying ((Toto wears read but naturally has brown hair)).
-Toto is completely illiterate as he never had a reason to learn to read while in the forest.
-Toto wishes to learn magic in order to become a more powerful god.
-he likes smoking Norman's pipe, even though its obviously bad for him, making him cough rather violently.
-Toto was created with tons of themes in mind, including the meanings behind luck, imagination, identity and of course, freedom.

Norman is Toto's closest ally and friend, despite having a rocky start. He is kind of like a father figure to Toto and looks out for Toto, but is also a little bit of a bad influence on the kid xD Norman is the one who taught Toto how to make and play willow flutes. Toto is a little protective of Norman, knowing that Norman isn't as powerful of a fighter as he is. Toto left his forest to travel with Norman to learn more about the world of Devotia in order to be a stronger god to protect the forest he calls home. after beginning his journey, Norman is the one person that Toto can really make a strong emotional connection with as they have a lot of similar themes and their interactions are as perfect as it gets! Toto believes that Norman thinks Toto is a god. Toto proves how important Norman is to him when Norman threatens to end his life, in which case Toto says he will be the one to kill Norman, but he would be taking his own life after the fact as well. this snaps Norman out of the bad thoughts he was having, which ends up saving them both.

Levine is the leader of the "Team Family" group and Toto sees himself as her second-in-command as he sees himself as the #1 fighter in the group and therefore the party's "pit bull" and attack dog. It took a while for him to do anything but hate Levine's violent behavior towards him, but now Levine is the only person ((other than Norman)) who has any kind of control over the boy as he actually has quite a lot of respect for her now since he believes he has her all figured out. he thinks he understands her, though he is very hung-up on why Levine is so obsessed about stopping the war between Patrish and Matrei. however, his extreme curiosity makes him more interested than he probably should be. He wants to prove to Levine that he's a god by getting her true parents to wish her "happy birthday".

Blair is the one member of his party that Toto really can't "be himself" around as she kind of scares him from her hyperactivity and behavior towards him.

Zeke is one of the very few characters that Toto didn't start off hating and Toto actually thinks he's kind of fun, despite Zeke finding Toto to be rather terrifying! xD Toto finds him fun because finally Toto has a boy somewhat close in age to him and takes any chance he gets to "play" with Zeke, and it usually involves something... very dirty, which Zeke HATES. Toto is really rough in play and these games pretty much have to end with either Norman or Levine telling Toto to back off since Zeke could very easily be hurt on accident by Toto's roughness ((though Zeke is already scarred for life thanks to Toto xD)).

Eggbear is a strange cat that seems to be following the group around...

Geona is a mage that doesn't believe in gods and wants proof that Toto is a god before being able to believe it. Toto has to learn plant magic in order to show her that he really is a god.

Saphire is a girl the same age as Toto who Toto runs into sometimes, and it always results in bickering and fighting, though they both seem to enjoy it somewhat |D or they wouldn't keep doing it every chance they get! lolz...

Travis is a fighter who had a massive clash in philosophy compared to Toto, making Toto seem rather villainous in terms of point-of-view. They had a vicious fight, and when Travis thought he had won, he offered to end this fight and get Toto some medical help for his wounds, but Toto took advantage of Travis' kindness and used this as an opening for a brutal attack that almost killed Travis. if Levine and Blair hadn't showed up, Travis would have been a goner |D but later, Travis let Toto get away when Toto wanted to run off, earning Travis a little bit of respect in Toto's eyes.

Lynnachi is a nun who believes that Toto is a god and always gives him offerings when he demands it in the forest. because of this, Toto shows her no aggression.

Coden may be the one person that Toto is actually quite wary of as he can't seem to read Coden very well, but he cant help but think that they have some things in common and there is a sort of mutual respect between them. Coden is a little bothered by how dark Toto can be despite being a child.

Alexis is a young mage who has caught Toto's attention a little bit for her powerful magic despite being so young. hes strangely nice around her and likes to show off a little when shes around.

Woody is someone that Toto despises for thinking that he was a girl. he punched her in the face for it 8V
