Creature: Black Wisp, a creature that is born from the powerful negative emotions of a living being that once lived on a planet consumed by a sentient black hole. They are considered a "fragment" of the original individual that spawned them and are not the full person, though they frequently have memories of the person they are a fragment of. Black Wisps have a nasty reputation among the only other two creatures of the world, the White Wisps and the Moderators, and are viewed as evil entities with mindless, destructive power that only know how to attack others. In a "stable" form, Black Wisps appear like their original selves and are at the lowest risk of "disappearing" ((disappearing is synonymous with death for Wisps)). They also have an "unstable" form where they are more powerful and dangerous, but are also at the greatest risk of disappearing into nothing forever. This "unstable" form is entirely black, often looking like smoke, though more powerful Black Wisps can form them into varying shapes. Most Black Wisps are not stable enough to take up their original's form and disappear after a short life while the more powerful ones can exist for exceptionally long amounts of time in a stable form.

He has no last name because Wisps do not have families. They take on the first name of their "original", but only the first name because they are fragments, so they have a "fragment" of their original's name.

Dimension: Matthew is from an unnamed world that exists within a sentient black hole who seeks out corrupt worlds to devour them. Within this black hole, there is a vast, desolate landscape where pieces of collapsed worlds are crunched together and filled with ruins and landscapes from an infinitely deep past. Time has no meaning there and the sky is constantly the same with no sun: just an empty expanse of continuous bright light. No color exists in this world so everything is in grayscale, and if there is color, it is severely desaturated. Matthew was "born" at an unnamed ruin at the edge of a "Graveyard" of four separate dead worlds. He refers to these ruins as თეთრი (("Tetri", meaning "white")).

Personality: Matthew is a bit of a lost and mislead soul who has many wrong assumptions about the way things work and ideas of right vs wrong. As a fragment of a being that existed before him, he takes up many of his original's traits, such as appearance, but is not fully like his original as he is missing many qualities that should exist. Matthew is constantly finding out new things about himself as memories from the life of his original trigger moments of nostalgia whenever he encounters different situations in the world outside of his home dimension. For example, he wasn't aware he had a soft spot for peaches until he was introduced to them after leaving his home dimension, but only remembered because the love of peaches was an emotion still hidden away deep down inside his fragmented soul somewhere. In the time since being a passenger on the World Train, Matthew has managed to make a few friends and become attached. His loneliness has driven him to react to kindness and understanding in a positive way when given proper time to adjust, though he still questions his new bonds regularly. It has distracted him from his original mission, making him question his life's purpose and if he can have any control over his own destiny when he was an obedient work dog before. After a conversation with Millia that had impacted him, he defied orders on a mission to a factory and realized that sometimes the best result really does come from going against orders and doing what he believed to be "more right" than what was commanded of him. With this in mind, he feels empowered, but also much more helpless than he had in the past as his own personal mission is not something he knows how to change.

Pumpelo has also had a dramatic effect on his personality, showing him much kindness and care as his roommate, as well as teaching Matthew to do a little better with things like manners. The two have a symbiotic relationship where one's strengths makes up for the weaknesses of the other, giving Matthew a better sense of teamwork and getting along with others. Since being roommates, Pumpelo has had a calming effect on Matthew's personality, mellowing him out compared to what he was when he first stepped aboard the train.

Matthew is currently in a state of identity limbo, trying to determine who he is. He struggles with his identity, battling in his mind over if he is his original reborn or if he is his own, separate self that needs to make his own life path of his own choosing. He questions the mission he was sent from his homeworld to achieve, wondering if it is worth it to abandon it in favor of living his own life as he sees fit... though it would not be without its heavy consequences. This is a source of much turmoil for him.

History: Like all Black Wisps, Matthew was born suddenly in his dimension somewhere in his world. Matthew awoke with fragments of memories from his "original" who contained the extreme negative emotions that he was born from, such as anger, pain, loneliness, sadness and others. In his early life, Matthew drowned in these emotions, merely staying close to his "birthplace", which were nothing but an old pile of ruins resembling a run-down abbey built with white stone. As a Black Wisp, he didn't need food, water or sleep so he spent the entirety of his life daydreaming, watching the textureless white sky and reflecting on the memories he was able to keep from his original in a past world long gone. Rarely, he would meet other Black Wisps, but they were not as powerful as he was and couldn't maintain a stable form, never living long. Sometimes he would come across weak White Wisps and slaughter them for fun because they were the natural enemies of the Black Wisps.

Matthew's lonely existence finally ended when he came across a White Wisp and her strange companions. However, this Wisp wasn't like the others and caused him to have a confusing set of emotions and experiences related to his original. In the end, he realized that this other Wisp was someone of deep importance to his original, causing him to experience the feeling of "love", and allowed her to win. She slashed his body into two so he fell to the ground, expecting to disappear and die as he slowly closed his eyes.

After an unknown amount of time had passed, Matthew was surprised to find himself awoken by a Moderator, another enemy of Black Wisps, but this Moderator was healing Matthew's wounds. Despite it being taboo for a Moderator to help a Black Wisp, this one seemed to have an urgent assignment for Matthew and needed Matthew to survive. Matthew wasn't impressed and wished for the Moderator to allow him to die in peace, but the Moderator mentioned the White Wisp that Matthew's original had loved had been spirited away out of their dimension and needed to be recovered. With this fragment of love inside his heart, Matthew was the only one who could search for her. Matthew eventually agrees to this assignment, despite his protests, once it is mentioned this beloved White Wisp of his original would die if she was outside of this dimension for too long. The Moderator is grateful and transfered a portion of his power to Matthew so Matthew is able to take on a much more "stable" form and survive outside of this dimension.

Fully healed and maintaining some of the Moderator's power, Matthew is able to escape his home dimension into unknown territory, unsure of what dimension he would end up in or what to expect.

Matthew ends up on Earth where he is overwhelmed by the amount of color and liveliness of the world compared to his own. He wanders around, unsure of how to find the White Wisp in a world like this but soon finds a road and follows it a while. While asking around for information, he finds that no one speaks his language and that he couldn't read any signs to figure anything out. He is aimless for several days, not realizing that his body is more human-like with the addition of the Moderator's power and that his body needed sustenance in food and water when he was outside his own realm. Matthew didn't know what feeling hungry, thirsty or tired felt like and eventually collapses on the side of a road outside of a village when his body couldn't take any more. There, he is found by a local minister who calls for help and takes him to a nearby monastery where he is given the proper medical care to rehydrate him and get food into his system. Matthew was dazed and uncertain of what happened, as well as feeling completely lost and hopeless on his hunt for the White Wisp.

Matthew takes a while to recover from his ordeal and ends up living at the monastery for several months as they provided him with food, water and a regular sleep schedule in exchange for him doing menial chores around the property. While doing these chores, Matthew attempts to get used to the new state of his body and have better control over his bodily functions. However, he had a massive language gap between himself and the others at the monastery. They attempted to teach him their language, but progress was slow and his vocabulary was limited. He did manage to learn he was in some country they called Sakartvelo ((Georgia)) and they protected him when they saw he was a user of "magic" despite it being condemned in most of the world. The monks and nuns at the monastery helped him make his Destablization ability be more reliable by putting a protective seal on his right elbow and right knee, as well as taught him a set of fire style skills that were part of their secret practices.

But despite the welcoming atmosphere, Matthew was still an outsider and had a task to complete, so he couldn't stay at the monastery forever. The head minister had many connections with other underground magic users and made arrangements for Matthew to go to the "World Train" to protect him and allow him to travel and help him with his search for the White Wisp. Matthew hated having to leave the monastery, but knew he couldn't stay. He said his farewells and was allowed to keep many gifts given to him by the people who helped him learn to adapt outside of his home dimension.

Skills:

Destabilization: His original Black Wisp ability, but in a much weaker form than when used in its own dimension, this ability allows him to "destabilize" parts of his body and turn them into various shapes ((primarily monstrous shapes)). Outside of his home dimension, he only destabilizes his right arm beneath his elbow and right leg beneath his knee to create black mist monsters that he can control from afar. During this technique, his eyes turn blue and can see what the monster is seeing. However, because he is outside of his home dimension, he does not use them for attacking because if they receive damage or "die", he would permanently lose the limb the monster was born from. This ability is mainly used for recon and collecting information.

Universal Sigil: The "signature ability" of Matthew's original and the only ability Matthew has inherited as his original's fragment, Universal Sigil is a speed-enhancing visual technique where the user creates a "sigil" glyph beneath his feet then mentally visualizes a location somewhere within visible distance to create a second glyph. The user then can move at half of light speed in between the two unobstructed points. If the user is particularly proficient with visual intelligence, he can set up multiple glyphs at the same time to allow him to speed around obstacles, though this can be very tough on the brain and with higher amounts of glyphs come the greater chance of making a mistake. If a user accidentally creates a glyph in the wrong place and runs into an obstacle in-between the two glyphs, the user would essentially collide with the obstacle and would cause instant death from the impact. Matthew is not as skilled with this technique as his original and can only place up to two glyphs at one time, but usually he only places one at a time ((besides the starting glyph)).

Flame Writing: Matthew's only true offensive skill is Flame Writing. Outside of using his sword like a regular sword, he can use it to use fire elemental artes by enchanting his sword with fire before writing a symbol in the air in front of himself. Depending on the symbol drawn, a different spell of fire will occur, taking a different action. These are close range and mid range fire spells. He started with two Flame Writing spells of low power, but will gain more as he grows levels as time goes on, as well as making these more powerful/interesting. is for new skills and is for new enhancements with level up. Enhancements may occur due to events in RPs or frequent use of a specific skill.
Level 1:
მ Solar Instant. Draws the letter before slashing it with the sword, sending the flaming letter in a straight line at an enemy.
ჯ Crucifix Quake. Draws the letter downward, sending the fire into the ground where it erupts in a cross beneath the enemy.
Level 2:
ვ Star Prayer. Draws the letter and drags the end of it to the sky with his sword, transforming it into a barrage of fireballs/shooting stars to hit the enemy. ((references RP with Millia))
ა Photosphere. Matthew's first defensive skill. Draws the letter horizontally with a spin movement around himself. Then the letter quickly forms a red heated barrier around the user for a few seconds. Water vaporizes upon contact with the barrier and any flammable object would catch fire.((references RP with Roy))
Level 3:
ყ Kazbek Plume. Draws the letter but the end of the flaming letter attaches itself to the blade and temporarily engulfs Lurji in a flaming plume three times longer than Lurji's natural length. This allows Matthew to use a flaming sword for close combat for a brief period of time. ((references RP with Pumpelo))
Due to his frequent use of Lurji Avtori at this point, Lurji has become more efficient at absorbing sunlight and expending solar energy so it can go for longer periods of time without needing to recharge.
Level 4:
ფ Companion Lanterns. The letter shatters into four miniatures suns that float around Matthew to give him light in dark spaces for about ten minutes. ((references RP with Charlette))
Lurji Avtori can be summoned more quickly; Matthew no longer needs to call out "Tell me a story, Lurji Avtori!" to summon it.

Matthew obtains a new weapon! The revolver called Colt's Bumblebee. It shoots normal bullets.

დ Time Novas. The letter shatters into twenty-four solar clocks that appear like suns with a clock inside of them, each with a set time to explode and spread out across the battlefield. They explode at predetermined intervals as novas but can cause chain reaction explosions if triggered by external means, such as contact with an enemy or the explosions of other bombs. Takes a significant amount of solar energy to use. ((references RP with Rathera))
Matthew's destabilized limbs become fully healed when reformed if they were injured prior to destabilization.

Weaknesses: As mentioned above, Destabilization risks him losing his entire limb if he isn't careful. He can also not use this ability for more than 10 minutes at a time and must be used within a certain range or his monsters may disappear when they are too far away. Universal Sigil's weakness is that it only works reliably in straight lines with no obstacles. He also cannot change directions once he already has launched from his starter glyph. It is also a very straining ability that risks him destabilizing his body if he uses it recklessly.

Physically speaking, Matthew is not very strong and doesn't have much stamina. When overworked, he may become sick with a fever, which can potentially lead to him destabilizing his whole body and can lead to permanent "disappearance" if the fever is prolonged for too long. Because he is outside of his home dimension, he shouldn't be using his Black Wisp abilities ((Destabilization and Universal Sigil)) every single day and keep his battles limited. His Flame Writing is limited to how much sunlight/energy his sword was capable of absorbing during its dormancy in-between battles. The more that is used, the less fire energy it has to exert in battle and the less effective it will be ((see the "Weapons" section below)).

Weapons: Matthew's main weapon is a semi-sentient sword ლურჯი ავტორი ((Lurji Avtori, lit. "Blue Author")) that remains concealed until Matthew summons it. Most of the time, it remains inside a pouch on Matthew's belt in the form of a bell attached to three blue feathers. When Matthew desires to use it, he rings the bell to summon forth a black mist that first forms into a chain attached to the bell, followed by the handle then the blade of the sword. Matthew claims it takes the form of a floating black mist to absorb sunlight ((black absorbs heat)) and becomes a shining blade for battle to use that absorbed energy to power his fire skills.

Matthew has obtained the revolver, Colt's Bumblebee, from Rathera as a gift after Matthew seemed to show an interest in guns and claimed it triggered some ancient memories of his original. It is a normal revolver currently using normal bullets with no magical attribute as of this time.

Items: Because of Matthew's sentimental personality, he carries a surprising number of trinkets onto the train with him in his luggage, despite the monks at the monastery telling him that physical possessions mean nothing "in this life". Among his seemingly random assortment of unnecessary things are a worn out kendama ((that he fails at playing with)), a dirty plush puppy with a torn ear, a handwoven yarn blanket, a half dozen "interesting" rocks, a Holy Bible written in Georgian that he has never read and broken pocket watch stuck at the time 10:45.

*Matthew is much more of a brains fighter than a brawn fighter, preferring to set up strategies with his limited abilities instead of rushing right into everything hack-and-slash style.

RP Sample: Matthew arrived to his living quarters seemingly well ahead of his roommate, if he would have one, and evaluated the room with his eyes, observantly looking for anything that may have been suspicious or potentially uncomfortable, but he was pleasantly surprised to see how comfortable and cozy the rooms were even with the water pipes all over the walls. His first instinct was to check out the beds, cozy places where he would be spending his sleeping hours and downtime. Making sure they were clean and unspoiled, he pulled back the top layer of sheets before patting them back down again as if nothing had disturbed them. Now that the beds seemed to have earned his approval, it was time for him to determine what bunk was his own and when he looked to the top bunk, a weird sense of nostalgia came over him as he felt warm vibes eminating from it. Matthew wasn't impressed and wished for the Moderator to allow him to die in peace, but the Moderator mentioned the White Wisp that Matthew's original had loved had been spirited away out of their dimension and needed to be recovered. With this fragment of love inside his heart, Matthew was the only one who could search for her. Matthew eventually agrees to this assignment, despite his protests, once it is mentioned this beloved White Wisp of his original would die if she was outside of this dimension for too long. The Moderator is grateful and transfered a portion of his power to Matthew so Matthew is able to take on a much more "stable" form and survive outside of this dimension.

Fully healed and maintaining some of the Moderator's power, Matthew is able to escape his home dimension into unknown territory, unsure of what dimension he would end up in or what to expect.

Matthew ends up on Earth where he is overwhelmed by the amount of color and liveliness of the world compared to his own. He wanders around, unsure of how to find the White Wisp in a world like this but soon finds a road and follows it a while. While asking around for information, he finds that no one speaks his language and that he couldn't read any signs to figure anything out. He is aimless for several days, not realizing that his body is more human-like with the addition of the Moderator's power and that his body needed sustenance in food and water when he was outside his own realm. Matthew didn't know what feeling hungry, thirsty or tired felt like and eventually collapses on the side of a road outside of a village when his body couldn't take any more. There, he is found by a local minister who calls for help and takes him to a nearby monastery where he is given the proper medical care to rehydrate him and get food into his system. Matthew was dazed and uncertain of what happened, as well as feeling completely lost and hopeless on his hunt for the White Wisp.

Matthew takes a while to recover from his ordeal and ends up living at the monastery for several months as they provided him with food, water and a regular sleep schedule in exchange for him doing menial chores around the property. While doing these chores, Matthew attempts to get used to the new state of his body and have better control over his bodily functions. However, he had a massive language gap between himself and the others at the monastery. They attempted to teach him their language, but progress was slow and his vocabulary was limited. He did manage to learn he was in some country they called Sakartvelo ((Georgia)) and they protected him when they saw he was a user of "magic" despite it being condemned in most of the world. The monks and nuns at the monastery helped him make his Destablization ability be more reliable by putting a protective seal on his right elbow and right knee, as well as taught him a set of fire style skills that were part of their secret practices.

But despite the welcoming atmosphere, Matthew was still an outsider and had a task to complete, so he couldn't stay at the monastery forever. The head minister had many connections with other underground magic users and made arrangements for Matthew to go to the "World Train" to protect him and allow him to travel and help him with his search for the White Wisp. Matthew hated having to leave the monastery, but knew he couldn't stay. He said his farewells and was allowed to keep many gifts given to him by the people who helped him learn to adapt outside of his home dimension.

Skills:

Destabilization: His original Black Wisp ability, but in a much weaker form than when used in its own dimension, this ability allows him to "destabilize" parts of his body and turn them into various shapes ((primarily monstrous shapes)). Outside of his home dimension, he only destabilizes his right arm beneath his elbow and right leg beneath his knee to create black mist monsters that he can control from afar. During this technique, his eyes turn blue and can see what the monster is seeing. However, because he is outside of his home dimension, he does not use them for attacking because if they receive damage or "die", he would permanently lose the limb the monster was born from. This ability is mainly used for recon and collecting information.

Universal Sigil: The "signature ability" of Matthew's original and the only ability Matthew has inherited as his original's fragment, Universal Sigil is a speed-enhancing visual technique where the user creates a "sigil" glyph beneath his feet then mentally visualizes a location somewhere within visible distance to create a second glyph. The user then can move at half of light speed in between the two unobstructed points. If the user is particularly proficient with visual intelligence, he can set up multiple glyphs at the same time to allow him to speed around obstacles, though this can be very tough on the brain and with higher amounts of glyphs come the greater chance of making a mistake. If a user accidentally creates a glyph in the wrong place and runs into an obstacle in-between the two glyphs, the user would essentially collide with the obstacle and would cause instant death from the impact. Matthew is not as skilled with this technique as his original and can only place up to two glyphs at one time, but usually he only places one at a time ((besides the starting glyph)).

Flame Writing: Matthew's only true offensive skill is Flame Writing. Outside of using his sword like a regular sword, he can use it to use fire elemental artes by enchanting his sword with fire before writing a symbol in the air in front of himself. Depending on the symbol drawn, a different spell of fire will occur, taking a different action. These are close range and mid range fire spells. He started with two Flame Writing spells of low power, but will gain more as he grows levels as time goes on, as well as making these more powerful/interesting. is for new skills and is for new enhancements with level up. Enhancements may occur due to events in RPs or frequent use of a specific skill.
Level 1:
მ Solar Instant. Draws the letter before slashing it with the sword, sending the flaming letter in a straight line at an enemy.
ჯ Crucifix Quake. Draws the letter downward, sending the fire into the ground where it erupts in a cross beneath the enemy.
Level 2:
ვ Star Prayer. Draws the letter and drags the end of it to the sky with his sword, transforming it into a barrage of fireballs/shooting stars to hit the enemy. ((references RP with Millia))
ა Photosphere. Matthew's first defensive skill. Draws the letter horizontally with a spin movement around himself. Then the letter quickly forms a red heated barrier around the user for a few seconds. Water vaporizes upon contact with the barrier and any flammable object would catch fire.((references RP with Roy))
Level 3:
ყ Kazbek Plume. Draws the letter but the end of the flaming letter attaches itself to the blade and temporarily engulfs Lurji in a flaming plume three times longer than Lurji's natural length. This allows Matthew to use a flaming sword for close combat for a brief period of time. ((references RP with Pumpelo))
Due to his frequent use of Lurji Avtori at this point, Lurji has become more efficient at absorbing sunlight and expending solar energy so it can go for longer periods of time without needing to recharge.
Level 4:
ფ Companion Lanterns. The letter shatters into four miniatures suns that float around Matthew to give him light in dark spaces for about ten minutes. ((references RP with Charlette))
Lurji Avtori can be summoned more quickly; Matthew no longer needs to call out "Tell me a story, Lurji Avtori!" to summon it.
Level 5:

Matthew obtains a new weapon! The revolver called Colt's Bumblebee. It shoots normal bullets.

დ Time Novas. The letter shatters into twenty-four solar clocks that appear like suns with a clock inside of them, each with a set time to explode and spread out across the battlefield. They explode at predetermined intervals as novas but can cause chain reaction explosions if triggered by external means, such as contact with an enemy or the explosions of other bombs. Takes a significant amount of solar energy to use. ((references RP with Rathera))
Matthew's destabilized limbs become fully healed when reformed if they were injured prior to destabilization.

Weaknesses: As mentioned above, Destabilization risks him losing his entire limb if he isn't careful. He can also not use this ability for more than 10 minutes at a time and must be used within a certain range or his monsters may disappear when they are too far away. Universal Sigil's weakness is that it only works reliably in straight lines with no obstacles. He also cannot change directions once he already has launched from his starter glyph. It is also a very straining ability that risks him destabilizing his body if he uses it recklessly.

Physically speaking, Matthew is not very strong and doesn't have much stamina. When overworked, he may become sick with a fever, which can potentially lead to him destabilizing his whole body and can lead to permanent "disappearance" if the fever is prolonged for too long. Because he is outside of his home dimension, he shouldn't be using his Black Wisp abilities ((Destabilization and Universal Sigil)) every single day and keep his battles limited. His Flame Writing is limited to how much sunlight/energy his sword was capable of absorbing during its dormancy in-between battles. The more that is used, the less fire energy it has to exert in battle and the less effective it will be ((see the "Weapons" section below)).

Weapons: Matthew's main weapon is a semi-sentient sword ლურჯი ავტორი ((Lurji Avtori, lit. "Blue Author")) that remains concealed until Matthew summons it. Most of the time, it remains inside a pouch on Matthew's belt in the form of a bell attached to three blue feathers. When Matthew desires to use it, he rings the bell to summon forth a black mist that first forms into a chain attached to the bell, followed by the handle then the blade of the sword. Matthew claims it takes the form of a floating black mist to absorb sunlight ((black absorbs heat)) and becomes a shining blade for battle to use that absorbed energy to power his fire skills.

Matthew has obtained the revolver, Colt's Bumblebee, from Rathera as a gift after Matthew seemed to show an interest in guns and claimed it triggered some ancient memories of his original. It is a normal revolver currently using normal bullets with no magical attribute as of this time.

Items: Because of Matthew's sentimental personality, he carries a surprising number of trinkets onto the train with him in his luggage, despite the monks at the monastery telling him that physical possessions mean nothing "in this life". Among his seemingly random assortment of unnecessary things are a worn out kendama ((that he fails at playing with)), a dirty plush puppy with a torn ear, a handwoven yarn blanket, a half dozen "interesting" rocks, a Holy Bible written in Georgian that he has never read and broken pocket watch stuck at the time 10:45.

*Matthew's world doesn't have any sense of time or calendar dates, so the listed birthday is the birthday of his original self. It is also the Feast Day of Saint Matthew on the Catholic calendar.
*Matthew's "founding emotion" for his creation is loneliness.
*Matthew is much more of a brains fighter than a brawn fighter, preferring to set up strategies with his limited abilities instead of rushing right into everything hack-and-slash style.
*He can't seem to keep his living space tidy; it is always a mess and his bed is never made.

RP Sample: Matthew arrived to his living quarters seemingly well ahead of his roommate, if he would have one, and evaluated the room with his eyes, observantly looking for anything that may have been suspicious or potentially uncomfortable, but he was pleasantly surprised to see how comfortable and cozy the rooms were even with the water pipes all over the walls. His first instinct was to check out the beds, cozy places where he would be spending his sleeping hours and downtime. Making sure they were clean and unspoiled, he pulled back the top layer of sheets before patting them back down again as if nothing had disturbed them. Now that the beds seemed to have earned his approval, it was time for him to determine what bunk was his own and when he looked to the top bunk, a weird sense of nostalgia came over him as he felt warm vibes eminating from it. There was a fragment of emotion and memory associated to having a top bunk... so he threw his bags up top before climbing up himself, messing up the covers without a care in the world.
