You know, I didn't think that, after EVERYTHING that Harvest has done in this comic; to Twilight, to Starflare; etc.; I didn't think he could to anything that could make me hate him anymore that I already did.
Then I read THIS page.
And found out that he had sacrificed his own Sun Phoenix-blessed DAUGHTER in the pursuit of his mad dream.
So it is now official. I flat-out HATE that worthless son-of-a-broodmare more than ANY MLP vllain that I have EVER seen in anything.

i feel bad for you reading all these ignorant comments where people write "this is just like in X"
like you can create something truly unique which nobody else ever did
that just doesn't mean that everybody knows about it and people still can create something unique for them and for the world something out of their perspective
i admire your work and it makes me sad that you started chugging these out like crazy recently (makes the end come closer at a faster pace)

It's not really that I mind the comparisons themselves, so much as it is that I hate when all the comment is is "Reminds me of X." They don't take the time to say anything else, all they wanted to do was point out that connection they make. What do I make of these comments? The only logical conclusion I can draw as that the individual involved is trying to say they feel my work is unoriginal. I don't deny the similarities, but I put a lot of thought into this story, and so when someone carelessly draws comparisons I get annoyed. I get even more annoyed when they are making a comparison based on something that isn't really unique, such as equating Harvest to Madara from Naruto because he has a cloak and a horned helmet, as if no one has played Kingdom Hearts and seen Maleficent (it would likely be asking too much that they see her anywhere else).

There are other conclusions as to why people may draw comparisons, including ones you're seeing, heck I'm one of them (only in my head though). I, and some others, draw them because people find it interesting to notice traits in something they are currently seeing, which are the same traits from another media they love. They usually don't imply criticisms such as unoriginalilty. Arguably, you can say that people like pointing out pointless things pointlessly.

But in such an instance it still feels insulting, because you feel like your own work is being depreciated in the process. Imagine having something you're really proud of, something you put lots of thought, creativity, and effort into... only to hear "looks like Naruto". The comment doesn't add anything else in there, all it is is "looks like Naruto" as if the commentator couldn't be bothered to say anything else.

I would properly say, 'huh, well what a coincidence.' or say 'eh, anyone can relate anything to anything these days.'
I do agree that it would be very annoying if the majority of the comment section consists of comparisons such as what you described, I can understand. On average, an artist would desire constructive, interesting, intelligent and maybe even quality comedy feedback, or at least compliments saying that the artist is going at the right direction. Comparisons such as these provide no benefit to the artists, and arguably could be considered spammish. There's just nothing interesting from a comparison like that. Actually now that I think about it, I would be bothering to have 'wastes of killer bytes' such as your example. So now I definitely understand the feeling even if it occurs rarely. Your kinda right.
