I'll point out that in the stained-glass window about Discord's reign, he's dangling the ponies over flames. That might be meaningful. I wouldn't expect him to kill just for the sake of killing, but I wouldn't expect him to avoid killing when that's the best path to chaos. And I could see a lot of chaos in the near future if the spell bombs are inside the citizens.

Did you think I meant that he literally dangled ponies above flames? I mean, maybe once or twice, but you can't repeat any given piece of chaos very much before it gets stale.
The point was, what do you think dangling ponies over flames is a metaphor for? In this context, fire pretty much has to represent danger; I can't think of anything else it normally symbolizes that would make any sense here. Maybe he made sure that his victims only risked limb and not life, or saved those who were about to die, but that doesn't sound like him to me. He'd take steps to ensure that his favorite toys don't get too broken, I'd expect, but for the most part cheating for somepony else's benefit isn't his style. If they lose, they have to suffer the consequences, and if they don't like it, maybe they should have thought of that before they went somewhere he was going to show up unexpectedly and force ponies to play his games.
