Poor lamp without it's shade. Maybe I'll give it back if it asks nicely.
Just trying out different settings with lighting. It was fun. Also, a result of how bored I was.

What an original idea! Playing with settings seemed to really pay off, as the lighting came out great. It's very soft. I don't know if it was a premeditated thing or not, but good use of an incandescent light bulb. Compact flourescents, which seem to have spread like a plague, may be cheap, but it would have completely destroyed your photo.
About your background...I think it would be interesting if you play with the transition between the black and white. For example, if you sit yourself completely in the black while the lamp resides in the white. Or better yet, if you can find a way to produce a more gradated background instead of a sharp contrast, it may strengthen your concept. Also, if you can eliminate the floor from the image...it may be a small change, but I think it will have a pretty hefty positive impact on the composition.
Oh, and good choice in your wardrobe. The red really compliments the scene well and radiates a playful attitude.

wow..very nice..if you couldnt see the modern metal working from the lamp in the light id swear it was taken in like the middle east somewehere in much older days..it coveys a feeling of finding warth in the light but also pretection from the surrounding dak..very nice ^__^

lol what a cute idea! It almost looks like a really skilled painting. At first I thought she was wearing a hood or something and then I englarged it and realized it was a lamp shade and then I couldn't stop laughing. I especially love the tongue sticking out! Great job, very funny!

Haha, very original idea and nice execution (love the deep colors). I love playing with lighting as well, my most recent picture used only light from a zippo and actually turned out better than I thought it would (Link ). wow, great shot. It's cool that you manage to stay somewhat inspired when you are bored. I really like how it is a little over exposed at the source of the light. The face and rest of the person (you?) is very well exposed. I also like the very warm orangey feeling
