Well, Windows was a Mac Rip essentially... Must agree with the artist here. But I don't use either, so who cares?

Actually, as someone mentioned earlier, the mouse was an innovative design by Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center of California, USA. Windows (obviously) does not use the Mac interface-for example, the taskbar serves different purposes for each OS.

I own a mac laptop, and I have to say I'm really dissapointed to own it-the interface is almost uncustomizable, where Windows has many programs (WindowBlinds, DesktopX, ObjectDock, ObjectBar, Bootskin, LogonStudio, and countless others) that can alter the intire interface, for example to make XP look and operate closely to OSX, for example with the Dock, the Mac taskbar, Widgets/Dashboard, and others.

On my Mac, however, I can't even move or change the taskbar at the top... it's so annoyingly uncuzomizable to different work enviornments that I'm just going to sell it sometime, I just don't find the interface very smooth.

The other lack on a Mac is gaming, where programs like Steam which houses hundreds of popular games and mods, only offering several mainstream, mediocre games. (Doom 3, for example.)

Another issue is price, which for the Mac is even more rediculous then buying a Dell off a TV program... the hardware is also uncustomizable and mediocre again at best for price. I also hear a lot of "Oh yeah, well when was the last time you heard of a new Mac virus being released?" from Mac users, to which I have to say that I have owned 95, 98, 2000, XP and Vista/Longhorn and I have _never_ gotten a virus or anything of the sort. Some might say you get viruses from surfing arond illegal stuff, etc... I don't use any anti-viral protection, and almost everything I own is pirated, including my current version of XP. To this I just have to think that the whole "Windows has more virii" thing a little over the top.

Overall, I can't really see how Mac has an advantage over Windows, apart from having plenty of sales... (I recently asked a group of girls sitting around with Macs why they spent much more on the Macs then buying a Windows laptop, to which they replied that it looked cooler. (...sigh) They even tried to defend how much better the Mac is then Windows based only on how much 'prettier' it is. Ungh.

I am totally with you man, i mean i just made this wallpaper for a laugh (as a joke).
I thought the new MAC's were much better than Windows, but to tell you the truth theyre completely worthless... as you mentioned above, u cant really do much with them, heck you cant even play computer games on them... LOL

with the title, macrip... umm i got that coz i watched that movie.. ummmm... 'pirates of silicon valley' i think it was called. and in that movie it shows how microsoft stole the mouse idea n stuff like that. thats all

anywayz, thanx for the comment dude

Lol. I love it when people bash Windows and Mac OS. I think they are both good systems but bashing them is fun. Anyhoo, in response to your description, a mac is a computer (Though it uses an OS called Mac OS). Basically, you have PC's, which are made by almost every other electronic company, and then you have Macs. They arent compatible with as much hardware or software as a PC; but hey, They look nice and i actually find them less of a hassle than a PC running on Windows. Whew...

Anyhoo. I love this wallpaper. Its a pretty creative idea.

Mircosoft ripped, in Chronological order:

- DOS (from a nerd)
- Graphic intervase (from Steve jobs and the Mac team)
- the mouse (from desperate people who got turned down by IBM)
- Money (tons and tons of it from IBM....because he made sure he kepts the legal rights of DOS so only HE could 'improve' it ><*)

anything I forgot

Mac didn't invent the GUI, Xerox did, and that was 1973. But graphical interfaces had been experimented with as early as the 1950s.

including touchscreen's when no one even came up with the idea of "interface"
you might wanna look that up at TED.com

thanks for the Xerox info... I thought they only did the mouse thing :/

Windows 2000 used to have support for touch screens. They're taking an old feature and hyping it up as new, it's nothing out of the ordinary. It's just example of Microsoft's boxed bullet-point engineering.

That in mind, Mac's also borrowed heavily from UNIX, BSD in particular. The OSX kernel may be different, being a hybridized kernel instead of following the monolithic kernel of BSD, but it remembers its roots well. Pretty graphics and slick features such as having spinning arrows, resizeable icons, one-click searching, and such are just glitz; a computer will run without them, and many servers still run without graphical user interfaces. That said, an OS won't run without a kernel, userspace, system commands, and ways to pipeline those commands into each other, and that's where both Windows and Mac - mac especially - have ripped off UNIX; right where it counts. If anything, Mac's just as bad as PC is in terms of what it's derived.

As for me, I currently run Debian.

Macintosh was the name of the Apple computer's division that Steve Jobs (Apple founder and actual CEO) back in the days where a 500MB HD and 16MB Ram was the norm... They shortened it to Mac, named their OS like that and made a cool logo for that Mac thingy (check my sig).
So Mac is what all (well aside from the ones from the end of the 70s and beginning of the 80s.) Apple computers are.

1- Thanks for passing by my place.
2- *sets Windows___A_MacRipbyMeXuT.jpg as desktop picture.
3- Yes, Windows ripped a lotta stuff from Mac but where does the first Mac interface comes from? Xerox!!! To rip or be ripped. Ah well, to rip AND be ripped.

That desktop picture is awesome, keep up the work!!!
Damn, this picture ROCKS!!!

Macintosh is the company name, like Microsoft - I think. I don't know where Apple comes in, though. Maybe its the other way around, like Apple is the company name, and Mac is the software? I don't think so... anyway, it looks cool.

edgefusion In reply to ejayne [2005-08-01 19:49:33 +0000 UTC]

Apple is the name of the company and Mac OS X is the name of the operating system.

Apple > Microsoft.

Mac OS > Windows.

But don't you remember those old ass times when you'd get "Macintosh" written on the computer? Just on the system box.

The name of the computer range is Macintosh too. So for example I have Mac OS X running on an iMac G5. But there are others macs, like the Mac Mini and the PowerMac.
