Description I tried to put this up without my usual disclaimer. It seems however that people are still just obsessed with fat and assume that when someone isn't sporting a muffin top that they must be starving themselves. I know she's skinny... and so does she.. so don't go telling her or me.. I like skinny.. it's full of detail. It's beautiful and reveling. Kaitlin has never dieted in her life, see eats, see eats anything she wants, she eats 10 times a day. Every one in her family is skinny. She'll outlive all of you, so shut up!! Go find a fat person to bother.

Sorry to rant. Please enjoy the beauty of this as I do. Thank you for stopping by.

Seems people are more concerned with critiquing what each other is saying rather than what the artist is saying with the photo. I really like the photo. I would have liked to see more shadow and contrast however. Just for fun I increased the shadowing and "warmed" up the photo some and it looked AMAZING! The model's stomach is sexy and the hips are a road map of dark veins and hills of bone. Perfect contrast. Good work Matt!!!

Okay, why is the issue about the model's body? Shouldn't it be about the photo?

Anyways, lovely take on the human anatomy, but maybe a little more contrast in there to really make those curves pop?

Great work.

I love the detail in the portrait, I find your comments very distasteful. If you want respect, do not belittle those that admire, are, or are not 'fat'.

It is also disrespectful for those who come to your page to belittle your choice to use her as a model, pay no mind to those. They obviously are naive to beauty. I believe there is beauty in every person's body...I'm just now accepting, that I may be beautiful.

Again, I want to say, that I do find great beauty in your photography, this piece has great depth and I love the angles.

...and obese is horrifying... i dont mean to offense chubby people, but obese people really do horrify me... i think that to be beautiful is to be healthy... and neither too skinny or too fat(as in anorexic or morbidly obese) is beautiful

Obese is horrifying...I don't understand how people can let themselves turn into blobs like that. Being chubby or overweight can sometimes be genetic or medical. But to be morbidly obese where you can hardly walk is messed up and it's your own fault!

*nod* I mean when you are 500lbs, do you REALLY need to have a doctor tell you you're riddled with health issues in order to get you to start eating like a normal person? How could you even have allowed yourself to get that huge? If that was me, I'd start shaping up as soon as I got to about half of that weight (actually I already freak out about my weight at 100lbs).

I don't have a problem with chubby or just fat people, but obesity is sick.

people are beautiful the way they are.
only advice i can give you (since imma another ultra skinny person) is to live healthy. exercise. not because you want to lose weight. because you want to, for example, you dont want to lose your breath every time you run after a bus(i dont know if you do, but i did that before i started working out).
i think that healthy people are the most beautiful people.

misericordia In reply to Happieh [2008-07-25 02:18:33 +0000 UTC]

The problem is I don't have that much time to exercise, and even if I did, exercise doesn't really do anything to my body. I've been doing some exercises for the past year (when I can fit it in) and seriously, NO difference. My stomach isn't tighter, my thighs are still massive, my arms are still flabby...
It's really bad too, because I used to be bulimic, and now that I'm trying to get thin "healthily" it's not working out.

Happieh In reply to misericordia [2008-07-25 12:31:33 +0000 UTC]

lol i dunno what should i say to you
i have a completely opposite problem...
i was in a summer camp for 10 days and the food was horrible and i couldnt force myself to eat much of it. and i lost more weight -.-
i literally force myself to eat and eat and eat MOAR just to mantain the current weight[120 lbs and 5'8" - which i guess is not too bad]
atleast exercise to get stronger... you can always benefit from that
ps. muscles are heavier than fat. dont worry if you get more weight exercising.

I got a stomach infection back in April...lost 2kg (about 4lbs) in one week. I'm insane enough that I was actually really happy and considered not getting medication (I didn't in the end, my stomach cured itself eventually...and then I got fat again). Now I've gained more weight, but I'm hoping to start going to the gym regularly once my bf goes back to Australia for uni (I have one month here before I go to the US for uni), and according to my friend who is already going to the art school I'm going to: the food there is so bad, you will definitely lose weight. Yay!

Well I'm only 5'3" and I think my best weight was 40-41kg (88-90lbs). It seems soooo low, but I'm weirdly proportioned so I actually don't look thin even though my weight is supposedly low. Last time I weighed myself I was 44kg (97lbs), and I need to lose 2kg again to get back to 42kg which I'm ok with. I know it's not muscle weight, because my clothes feel tighter.

Very much so. Matt isn't the thinnest guy in the world himself. I wouldn't call him fat, but he's certainly nowhere near my size. I think the point he was trying to make was to point out the hypocrisy of people being cruel to thin people, and being rude about their size, when they wouldn't say the converse to a fat person. I dated Matt for a decent while, and I never once heard him say a bad thing about a fat person. If he didn't like fat people, I'm sure I'd know about it.

I love that comment. "to point out the hypocrisy of people being cruel to thin people, and being rude about their size, when they wouldn't say the converse to a fat person."
I've been making it a point to try and spread the word myself.

People are so quick to say how wrong it is to be down on fat people, but they will take every opportunity to bash as many thin people as they can find... kinda backwards no?

Of course I don't have to tell you that.

And I'm totally for your rant Mfenberg.

Really? Everyone loves thin people in Italy? [link] By those standards (18.5 BMI) someone my size wouldn't be allowed to find work as a pro model in Milan. Listen...I'm not trying to fight with you...I'm just trying to make you realize that the point he's making (if I'm not mistaken, and I don't mean to put words in his mouth if I am) is to point out the hypocrisy of making fun of thin people, and not of fat people. He's not really suggesting that people go make fun of fat people, because he knows most decent people wouldn't do that. However, most decent people WOULD tell someone my size to eat a cheeseburger.

If you're fat, go pose nude and post some photos here. See if you don't get nothing but comments about how brave and beautiful you are. When I do the same thing, unless I put some kind of disclaimer up about my weight being natural (and usually even when I do) I get a ton of rude, ignorant comments about my size. I've been likened to a victim of a concentration camp more times than I can remember.

Everyone who isn't "normal" gets made fun of. Super thin people get just as much shit as super fat people. As someone who isn't super thin, you can't really say what we go through or how people feel about us. People seem to love thin in America also if you judge by the way models in NYC look...but try living a day in the US as a 5'8" 95 lb girl. You'd see that not everyone does love thin people...in fact, many people find us disgusting, and some will not hesitate to say so.

Put yourself in my shoes. I've put myself in yours many times before.

DahliaMatsumoto In reply to ModelKaitlinLara [2007-11-30 15:48:56 +0000 UTC]

"I've put myself in yours many times before."

really? good for you then.
I'm not talking about Milan fashion standarts dear, in Italy people call you fat even if you're 60 kilos.
and by the way, you dont live here so you cannot know what italians think.
yes, I could post my images there, I've seen images of no thin people, but you know that everyone, me and you too, is fake, always.
I mean, I post one of my images here, and everyone says: ooow so good, well done blah blah even if I'm 100 kilos ( cause I am ), but if they see me without knowing that I'm the person of that image, they think "oh my god, so fat, horrible".
thats the point.

and you're right, not everyone likes thin people, in fact I dont.

From the page you linked:
They'll use the same body mass index guidelines and will not hire any model with a bmi under 18.5.

this will never come true, dont worry.
and they say that lots of girls die because of anorexy.
that's crazy.

you could have just said that you dont particularly fancy thin models, and that you prefer seeing (and feeling ) fatter models

and i know how that girl feels. my bmi is between 17.6 and 18.0 (my weight tends to oscillate[sp?] a lot), i try and try to put on weight but it wont work. my doctor thinks i have a hormonal disorder...

The fact that you just said you don't like thin people just completely discounted anything of value you may have said in this conversation to me. I have no problem with fat people. In fact, one of my favorite models is a woman named Shyly and she is 300 lbs.

Until we can learn to love EVERYONE regardless of their body type, we have no right to hold ourselves higher than anyone...and once you DO learn to love everyone regardless of their body type, you won't want to hold yourself higher than anyone else. Women should be allies...not competitors.

oh my god.

I said I dont like thin people, I meant I prefer not thin people, but a thin girl or a boy can be beautiful for me, no?
I'm talking about HATE, not what I like or not.

ModelKaitlinLara In reply to DahliaMatsumoto [2007-11-30 20:16:29 +0000 UTC]

Okay...and I'm pointing out to you that disliking...hating...whatever you want to call it...valuing one body type as better than another makes you kind of a hypocrite when you complain about people talking down on a body type. Until you can truly say that you see equal beauty in all people, then I think it's somewhat hypocritical to blame Matt for saying anything negative about fat people...especially when he meant it ironically.

I'm done having this conversation here. I feel bad clogging up Matt's comment section with all this negativity. If you'd like to continue this, please do so via PM.
