Given her appearance and the atmosphere of the photo,
I think the title refers to 'Metropolis' the movie, rather than a metropolis in literal sense.

The title + the actual imagery I feel like this piece screams an honesty for people living in large cities. Overtaken by the lights, sounds, and general activity of everyday life with no sense of peace or even personal space/time. People, like your model, become apathetic to the stimuli and just seem to accept what's happening around them, to them, because that's life.
Maybe I'm just tired of living in a large city? Either way, congrats on the DD and thanks for making something I connected with almost instantly on some unknown level. It's a fabulous piece of art.

I like your thoughts on it - I was trying to think how this related to a city...other than a lamp XXDD I feel bad for saying that, but sometimes the imagery in photos just elude me

For me the light is very similar to the blurred lights of headlights/back breaks of cars - passing you by on the expressway, while stuck in traffic, or even the lights in buildings as you pass them by. I think that's what made me connect the photo to a city so quickly.

It was a VoigtlΓ€nder 50mm 1.1 with Leica mount, the 1.0 is always in the exifs if you use a manual focus lens
In this case it was F2.0
