Description
My contribution to 's Jessica Rabbit art jam: [link](jam session lasts until August 22!)
Jessica was apparently one of the first cartoon characters I drew in enough recognizable "detail". First such drawing I have a memory of is He-Man, but there's hard evidence of Jessica Rabbit: [link]
Anyway, so I found this the other day:
It's (one of) devianart's premiere art jam directories, and that's how I got wind of the Jessica Rabbit jam.
Nostalgia forbid me to pass it up. But I forbid myself from just illustrating Jessica in the conventional red, sequined dress. So I came up with the idea of, "What kind of cross-promotional/endorsement posters might Jessica have appeared in during wartime 1940s?" Actually, my initial thought was to put her on a poster for a sweeping epic film produced by R.K. Maroon, but the propaganda idea cropped up right before I started.
Also, I used Illustrator to trace me initial sketch of her. First time using Illustrator of my own volition in... like, ever. Well, a very long time, at least. But I wanted to use the jam as an excuse to exercise, and I thought the vector brush strokes could really help me get the look I wanted.
Anyway, I've rambled on enough. It's Jessica Rabbit!

LOL THIS IS SO AWESOME. Atleast it doesnt show her totally in the spotlight showing off her legs. I search "Who framed Roger Rabbit" on dA, and over half the results are Jessica. XD

Did you create those textures or did you get them from somewhere.
I really like that visual effect

Hmm. I think the textures/patterns are all mine. I try to remember to credit them if they're not, and they look like they could be some of my custom ones.
Thanks much!

Unfortunately, I think intellectual property laws would prohibit me from being able to offer this as a print.

Thanks!
This time the lines are vectors (wanted to try something a little different). So I can't really take credit for their smoothness... XD
Illustrator pretty much did that on its own... hehe!

First time with "details". Well, don't leave us any of the gushy story. *grins*
That said, wonderful drawing. The poster even has that fainted, faded coloring that fits in that era.

Oh Jessica Rabbit, you ruined my innocence so young! I think I watched that movie way too early. >XD I adore this idea and how you executed it. Can definitely tells it's Jessica.
For the busty red headed beauty, the designers of her did perfect, but she still manages to bug me since she's over exaggerated so. But! That's the point of cartoons yes?
π: 0 β©: 1
MichaelMayne In reply to Insanitywithapencil [2009-08-11 14:51:52 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I know what ya mean! haha!
According to Wikipedia, the designers and animators really wanted to see how far the Disney execs would let them go before drawing the line. If you'll notice, in the actual animation frames, as buxom as she may be, she's hardly (if ever) drawn with cleavage. It's merely her silhouette/form that suggests her busty proportions...
Thanks so much!!
Glad you like it!

Insanitywithapencil In reply to MichaelMayne [2009-08-11 15:30:19 +0000 UTC]
Hah wow I never noticed that. But her front on view is clearly that of a dramatic "hourglass". Though I doubt cleavage would have added much more or less to her...sensuality.
And you're very welcome. :3

Yeah, I guess cleavage is where Disney drew the line (ironically)... haha!
