I tent not to add shadows to my work because if someone wants to use it they can always add a shadow. Shadows are sometimes hard to remove if you don't like them.

hmm... While it is greatly rendered, I don't know if it works out as a Icon, seems a bit strange to have a Hand in a dock or as a desktop icon.

Hey mate.
I took a pic of my hand holding the mouse, removed the mouse in Photoshop and used the empty hand as a guide for a render in Maya (3D program) then back to Photoshop for the effects.
