This piece was inspired by a signing I did for Free Comic Book Day this year. I had a sketch of Leonardo on my table with a red bandana like in the original comics and just about every kid that approached my table the whole day took the opportunity to let me know I got it WRONG. I started telling them that Leo must have grabbed Raph's bandana by accident. Those kids were too funny.Check out my other Ninja Turtles pieces.

This sketch you've done looks very nice, and I actually think Leo does look cooler in red instead of blue!

I knew the story but I don't think the average 7 year old gives much of a damn about 29 year old independent comic continuity. If I would have taken the time to attempt to explain it to every one of them that came up I wouldn't have got anybody's sketches finished that day, plus I wouldn't have had the idea for this drawing which makes it all worth it. Plus telling them that they got their masks mixed up was a hell of a lot more funny.

Would it have killed them to be reminded that in 1984, *all* the Turtles had red bandanas, and that they didn't get separate colors until 1987? Although, the labeled belt buckles also didn't come around until 1987. Apparently, Fred Wolf didn't think children in the audience would be smart enough to know which Turtle was which unless they had separate colors AND initials on their belts.
