Description
A technical diagram of the Ellisian Mk. VII 'Chassepot' long rifle. It fires a 14.5x130 mm high velocity shell with an explosive charge in the base of the projectile. Upon detonation the sides of the round's jacket fly as shrapnel in all directions while the solid tip of the round is further accelerated as an armor-piercing slug. In layman's terms when it first begins to enter the surface of the target it bursts like a fragmentation grenade while still piercing deeper in. This huge caliber can utterly disintegrate man-sized targets, even ones wearing body armor. It also has significant potential as an antimaterial weapon.Though unquestionably superfluous and inefficient as a standard infantry weapon for dealing with humanoid opponents, and being just a little too weak to be a reliable antitank gun, the weapon's design perfectly meets its true role as an anti-pred rifle. Its shells were particularly designed to have their greatest effect against huge amounts of solid flesh that aren't armored. Fitting this bill it can punch straight through two yards of solid tissue and bone, quite enough to fracture a limb or crack a skull.
The weapon's ammunition is far too bulky to sport a magazine and is loaded from the breech after every shot. The ejection port, interestingly enough, is directly above and behind the bolt, as all of the interior components of the rifle are perfectly symmetrical. The panels that form the lid over the ejection port and firing chamber articulate upwards to allow spent cartridges to be extracted and new shells loaded.
Such a large round and its propellant creates a huge amount of hot gases that leave the barrel, allowing for a unique recoil compensator to be used. The muzzle brake actually channels these gases into a piston that's directly under the barrel. The inside of which is lined with a corkscrew valve, which easily allows the gas to expand backward, but traps it as it expands forward, creating a net force that counteracts recoil. Incidentally drawing gas from the muzzle also reduces the noise made by each shot and partially conceals the muzzle flash.
The piston culminates in a gas regulator which feeds a reservoir that's just forward of the trigger. The gases finish their journey by being vented into the firing chamber when the bolt is pulled back, assisting in ejecting the heavy shell casings. Excess gas is vented straight down.
Typical Mk. VIIs use only tangent type iron sights, though a mounting rack is always available for more comprehensive optics. In any case these are rarely held directly to the eye, otherwise the recoil could cause severe head injuries. Ellisians aim their rifles by hooking an optic cable from their combat masks to whatever sights are being used. This allows them to fire accurately without having to posture themselves in the way of the incoming force.

Thought this was a railgun or Gauss weapon at first, lol.

Awesome! Fan of the PTRD-41 or PTRS-41?
I actually bought a 14.5mm shell just to have it.

The humans in my newest story, Nikita's Adventure's use good ol' RPGs. Well once they produce more anyways. Nikita calls Yuri's RPG (the original) "Arpeegee Seven" she can't help but think it has a strange name. XD

Actually yes, the PTRS was the rifle that started this train of thought. I figured to myself, if a race was living in Felarya and constantly under threat from predator raids, what weapon would actually be useful to them? It seemed inevitable that trial and error would lead them to using huge antimaterial cartridges. The 14.5x114mm Russian round was a great starting point in that case.

that looks awesome!
one question, does it come with a noob tube attachment?

I suppose you 'could' attach an M203, GP25 or whatever other variety of grenade launcher to it, question is whether or not that would be a good idea. Seeing as the rifle's normal cartridges are so destructive it may be easier to just forgo the attachment and just shoot your target with the gun itself.

The round is narrower than a standard 20mm, but the cartridge is significantly longer. Bearing in mind the explosive payload and piercing tip, its a fair comparision to match the destructive qualities between this round and a 20mm Hispano shell.

Very nice, though when you say preds are you refering to the infamous Predators?

That's precisely who it was designed to deter, problem is that even a powerful cartridge like the 14.5x130mm will demand multiple hits to bring down a giant. Even a clean headshot would probably just give Crisis a bad migraine.

Ahhh well fair point, but would it be possible to implement a bull-pup design to allow for a magazine?
Or have the recoil compensator above the barrel and allow room for a magazine compartment, could result in a nice bolt action or even semi-auto for improved 'lethality' (I've never liked that word :/).

Both of those are good ideas, potentially modifications like those could be made. The only foreseeable problem is that the recoil from this weapon would make any kind of rapid firing just as destructive to the user as it is to the target. For reference, the infamous .50 cal round's dimensions are 12.7x99mm. Much smaller than the cartridges in question here.

what about mounting an automatic variant onto a vehicle, like a hummer?

Possible, but impractical. The size of the chamber and barrel would mean that you would easily need the space and support that you would normally give to a very large mounted gun, once more I'll use a 20mm cannon for reference. If a cannon of that size won't fit easily then an automatic version of this gun certainly won't either.

A very thorough design, and based on my very limited knowledge of physics, it could theoretically be possible to build.
I don't know why you would need it in this world, but you never know when you'll need to reduce a man to giblets.
