It was only vials of chemicals and other useless looking devices. Nathan had been carrying a box of the chemicals after being instructed to deliver them to another part of the lab, when he dropped the box. The vials of chemicals smashed all around him, splashing all over him.

Due to him destroying the chemicals, Nathan was later fired. That was however, when he discovered his power...

Fashioning a costume, Nathan took to the streets as the Vigilante Blink. After a couple of months, Blink managed to take down Chicago's local mob boss. After this he gained some publicity and was approached by Nick Fury.
