"When I was little and making messes was basically my job, I'd always wondered when my mama would finally snap and beat me. When another crayon-covered wall was the last straw or when she just got tired of bustin' out the bleach. That day never came, though. Ya see, mama was more patient than the Lord Himself—heaven knows how she got it and heaven knows how she kept it, too. Mama didn't raise a thing against me or my siblings; no raised voices and certainly no raised hands. So, whenever I found myself in yet another mess, you know what mama would do?"

There was a pause that was filled with a shaking sigh and light sniffle.

"Mama would just shake her head and say, 'Don't you worry, I'll clean it up'. Every time one of us deserved a whoopin', she would just explain to us that we needed to do better. And you know what? It worked. When my siblings and I got older, we didn't stop making those messes. But we did know when to calm down and say, 'Everything's fine. It'll be okay. Don't worry, just clean it up'. It's a motto that we all live by."

The speaker nodded to the people around her. One black eyed man looked back and winked, a short haired woman grinned, and a pair of tall twins simply wiggled their fingers hello. There were others who kept working, but it was obvious that they were all listening.

"We've all gotten pretty good at our jobs over the years. So, just like mama used to say, don't you worry 'bout a thing, ma'am. My brothers and sisters are here to help - we'll clean this mess right up."

Dark eyes looked past the woman in her arms and focused on the body of her new client's abusive husband. Well, ex-husband now. She and her family definitely had a harder case with getting the blood out of the walls, but the satisfaction of the job always made up for it. She grinned, her teeth white headstones, and made a note to attend the funeral.

After all, it'd be a shame to see her hard work go to waste.
