Description A little later than anticipated but here's a preview of my next project!
Currently this is the building's outer frame. For builds of churches especially this is a great method of mapping out your build before you commit to more intense work. In this stage I made many alterations without tearing down great chunks of building just because there's a slight deviation of a single block out of alignment. I use X's & other geometric shapes to help me measure out spaces & areas in the building usually in different colour blocks so that I have a better idea on what I'm working on at any stage. When I started out I didn't use this method: But building for six years now I've learned many things to improve my technique. So my advice to anyone working on a big build: Do the math, map out your spaces, build your frame. It saves a lot of revision & allows for easy adjustment. Any questions? (Apart from what this build is) Sound off in the comments below!

Very interesting... I use frames but on a smaller scale, I would only frame out a section like say a tower or something and complete that bit and then frame another bit... But framing it all? Never occurred to me, but now that im thinking about it, that's actually a much smarter ideaΒ

I often observed houses being built in my area & it dawned on me that if I framed the exterior of anything I'm building it can save lots Β of reworking should I miss a measurement by a block or two. Also this was to answer a question I get a lot: how do I build my stuff. This will be my method of construction from now on

Yeah it's something I've adopted during my years of building. Saves a ton of work should you need to make revisions.

Gosh! I've had this fantasy church under construction on my Minecraft world for quite some time, but I never even thought of using frames. (How dumb of me...Β )
But hey, this was more or less educational to see.Β Β What is well-planned is practically half-done, as the Finnish proverb would say.Β Β

Ah, to be honest in the beginning I didn't use frames in construction only until recently. It's a big help: I've made some revisions to this build already & building a frame has saved me a ton of work.
That's a very good saying: I do love intelligent sayings especially if they come from other countries, so much wisdom to be had!

Oh this is a good idea. I'll have to try this next time I go for a massive build! Thanks for the advice!

Really nice that you decided to post W.I.P. pics of your builds. Forgot to vote on that poll where you asked about it, but atleast you did it anyway! Very nicely done!

Good to know you approve my early upload of this build: about four or five people voted unanimously in favour of putting WIPs so I deliver on my word

It's nice to see people want to see WIPs as well! It makes the accout also seem more active, you know?

However, this might be a strange suggestion, but have you ever thought of building 'interactive' buildings with redstone and other stuff, making them more alive and putting them up for download?

MinecraftArchitect90 In reply to kevin190499 [2016-06-27 09:08:12 +0000 UTC]

I was thinking the same: given that at best I can upload a new build once a month or so I figured it would be a good idea to upload new builds in various stages.
I don't have any plans for Redstone project since I have no experience with Redstone. I do watch Sethbling's videos every now and then & his Redstone devices are nothing short of genius!

Then why not try to apply Redstone mechanics in those world downloads? It doesn't have to be very complicated. It even can be a simple light switch through a button! I would recommend searching for easy redstone stuff that can cooperate within buildings. Like lights and fireworks (maybe for a New Year's Eve build).

Sure, I'll look into it since all my builds are on the one world it would be a huge download. I don't have any plans to make it available for download yet. Maybe if there ever becomes a time where Minecraft brings me happiness no more, I'll make it available for download.

Great to hear!

You could, or when you think the world is like too crowded by the structures, you could continue on a new one!

MinecraftArchitect90 In reply to kevin190499 [2016-06-27 17:11:41 +0000 UTC]

It does: and with all the churches, temples, monuments etc you get the feeling that even the mobs have a sense of culture. Like seeing a few zombies in the Hagia Sophia you'd assume they're Greek Orthodox adherents XD

Haha, that's actually a quite interesting, but amazing perspective. xD They finally got some culture! Now only a university is left, and then they got knowledge as well!

Is the framing dirt or wood?

Does it takes a lot of research to build a model?

MinecraftArchitect90 In reply to XxRosieGrlx [2016-06-26 20:22:13 +0000 UTC]

The frame is built entirely of Granite. It can take a good few hours of studying the building depending on its complexity and history.
