xD I kind of now understand why Ryou is always depicted as the wrist-cutting emo kid. LOL
I love Ryou, but I cannot deny that seeing him try to commit a random 'accident' that will probably also fail, again, will amuse me.

Yah, the wrist cutting emo Ryou is a cute idea but I always thought it's be absolutely wicked if one day he just whipped out a razor sharp wit and started murdering people with it. I just think with all the crap he's lived with, he'd either kill himself or go for the old 'If I can't be happy, no one can' state of mind. I've always loved the little head case; he had so much potential as a character but he never reached it.
I blame Kazuki Takahashi.

XD Homicidal Ryou pwns Yami Bakura anyday. It will be way creepier LOL.

I blame Kazuki Takahashi too. Out of all the characters, he was probably the most neglected. He would have gotten the chance to fight back Yami Bakura himself, or gotten more character development at least in the Pharaoh Arc, but no. T_T; Ryou is denied for having a dark force in him. T_T While Yami Bakura still gets the spotlight. Unbelievable. D:

I know! Thank god I've found someone who agrees with me! As much as I love Yami Bakura to bits, I think that he got too much recognition. As much as the two of them where one, you almost only ever saw Yami when Ryou was just as important. A far more impressive final chapter would have been for that kid to actually get a chance at fighting back. You know he'd of felt responsible for what happened so it would have been a whole new level of epic to see him given the chance to right the wrongs of his evil half.
Or Takahashi could have giving him some sort of closer. I could almost have forgiven him if we'd gotten that much, something showing that Ryou was able to get back the life he'd lost for so long.
It's infuriating, especially when you see the little credit animation in the end of the final episode in Japanese. You get that quick glimpse into all the nobodie characters but not Ryou. I mean seriously, how could he create such a obviously deep and conflicted, hurting character like Ryou and then toss him to the side like so much day old cabbage?
Anyways, I'm ranting. Sorry about that. There's a few things I'm opinionated on and this is one of them ^^ I'll stop if you'd like me too.

Oh no no no, hahaha, I actually enjoy this conversation. I haven't thought much about Ryou in years, it's refreshing to discuss things about him again! xD Yami Bakura is kind of...overexposed? Like....everybody loves him LOL. All the guys think he's cool and the girls think he's sexy. *LOL, I did a bit too.* But Ryou was always pushed aside as unimportant, or even as bad as some kind of hostage, so a lot of people find him irritating.

D: I don't think he deserved that kind of role, since he seems deep and complex enough from the start. In the first Yugioh series, he was portrayed as a highschool heartthrob, (I actually didn't like that idea,) but he was given more attention with that. He was also very alert, and he actually was shown trying to defend Yugi and the others from Yami Bakura. In the second animation, there was that episode in the Duelist Kingdom arc where he was only used as comic relief for that rolling boulder scene.

After that he was just a commentator. T_T;

That was also one of my deeper annoyances; he never had a closure to his story; we were left hanging to what may have become of him, and heck even Tristan got more backstory than he ever did. Not to be anti-Tristan (or LOL, Honda,) but Ryou deserved more screentime with all his conflicts. We never even got an explanation how the heck Ryou's father thought it was a good idea to bring home that millenium ring. Or how about his mother? Or background on Amane, who also seemed to have a big part in the beginning of the first manga.

Ryou has a backbone, but this is never shown in the second anime series, due to using him as plot device to 'save' him. >_< It seriously annoys me argh. Wouldn't it be nice to have seen Ryou interact in that Pharoah Arc? Actually see him interfere with Tou-Zoku -Ou Bakura and Zorc? D:

I think they're really cool, actually. They're part of Japanese culture, and is a lot refreshing than the usual "cool" animals like wolves, dragons or phoenixes. (They're way too overused already, so this makes for a new concept.)

But cute, round bunnies are always a different story. xD
