So, was it male or female? It's so hard to tell just from the pictures...

Little guy took a while to start the wing pumps and was pretty happy to just cling to the chrysalis for a while till we moved 'em over into the sun. As of returning from class, they've safely flown off.

Yep, that's pretty typical. They'll have found a place to chill for the rest of the day
Ah, well. Would have been neat. But you have to get a look at the inside of the wings or the tip of the abdomen to know for sure, and you can't always do that.
