Description
This is a thankyou to all my watchers. After 3 years being asked to make a tutorial, it's finally here lol. Yeah a bit late and everyone has probably advanced past this tutorial level, but i hope it helps some artists nevertheless.I don't enjoy lineart so I'm using this recent one [link] and re-coloring it different from the original.
This is my full process of coloring lineart. I don't always use this process, but these were the same steps i used when coloring the original which can be seen here: [link]
It didn't turn out as well as the original, but i rushed it as much as possible cause i just wanted to focus on the process and it's the 2nd time to color the same thing. This took me about 6 hrs straight to fully write up and color so i apologize for spelling, grammar or just not understandable cause i haven't double-checked.
Feel free to ask questions!

I love seeing a persons process. My question is do you use a specific brush to add texture to the skin?

I used the same textured brush when doing the clothing and feathered wings, just with less flow % to keep the skin smooth overall.

nice tutorial, but i think it would've looked better if your reflective/ second light source wasn't the same color as your primary light source.
also if you used a brush with sharper edges, it'd make it more realistic
but none the less, beautiful coloring job

Awesome tutorial! I'll definitely use it. :3
But could you tell me why the light spots in the last picture are suddenly so much lighter than in the picture before? Sorry to bother you with this.
*favs*

It's no bother. At the end of every pic i do, i adjust the levels and color balance to try enhance and finalize it. In PS, Ctrl+L brings up the levels window and Ctrl+B for color balance. Play around with the controls to see what it does.

Thankyou so much for this tutorial! I saw the original yesterday and immediately wondered whether you would do a tutorial of the image. I loved the original and I love the tutorial. Thanks

past the tutorial level? haha. sorry, there arent THAT many people here on dA who can draw as well as this, and so need it
but i'ma big non-believer. All you get is people who dont take it on board, and instead take it as gospel, and you just get clones as a result

This is excellent I'm just starting out with photoshop, and I'm incredibly confused as I'm used to a different program. (Painter) What does flow mean/do?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
minties In reply to acerynn [2007-05-16 17:24:34 +0000 UTC]
In painter, theres the brush setting 'opacity'. Flow works similar to that but more smooth. There is also an opacity setting in PS.

too great..............but i don't have tablet...the mouse can do the effect like that huh?
u are too great in photoshop!!!!

minties In reply to Estheryu [2007-05-16 17:09:41 +0000 UTC]
It is possible with mouse i believe. Instead of tablet's pen pressure, you could set the brush flow % manually.

Woah. If I ever get into digital art (which probably won't happen, but ya never know) I will definitely be using this as a guide. It's an awesome tutorial -- thanks!
