Description
After a long long while of having my original Fionna Hat Tutorial up I've gotten the questions "Do you have to use wire?" and "Will Fluff/Stuffing/cotton balls work instead?" So many times! I also find that I wasn't too fond of the way I worded my tutorial the first time around either. So I decided that it was time for a re-visit, I revised the tutorial to go over the original basics as well as explain simply that you can use just stuffing instead of wire and the ears will hold up just fine! So here you go folks! An alternative easier way to make a Fionna hat! Enjoy! (again sorry for any grammatical and spelling mistakes that I've made.)All the links I used in the past to create this non-wire hat:
DIY Finn/Fionna Hat Youtube vid: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXo2pd…
Finn Hat Pattern: archives.frederatorblogs.com/a…
Here is a list of materials that you will need! Some are optional!
Feel free to ask any questions! I'm not very good at wording things so I truly hope I was able to help you.
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR TAKING A LOOK AT MY TUTORIAL! I HOPE I WAS ABLE TO HELP!
Thank you to all those who's tutorials have helped me!
I do not take credit for any tutorial other than my own! I do not own Adventure Time in any way shape or form! nor do I take credit for the design of Fionna's hat!
ONCE YOU ARE FINISHED WITH THE HAT SEND ME A LINK TO SOME PICS OF IT! I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE FINISHED HAT(S)!!!
(also if you wouldn't mind could you mention my tutorial along with a pic of your hat? I would love for more ppl to find it and use it. Thanks!)

How did you get the pattern to print out the correct size?

I honestly just played around with the pattern in photoshop. I don't remember the exact sizing I used seeing as I printed this pattern a couple years ago and haven't needed to print it since. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Awesome tutorial! One of my high school's spirit week themes is TV and Movie Character Day, so I'm going as Fionna.

Thank you! I'm glad you like it! That sounds pretty fun. My High school did spirit weeks too but they were more like "PJ Day" and "School color day" nothing as awesome as TV and Movie character day.

My high school's themes are pretty generic too, that one was the only exception. The others are color day and formal and things like that, ones the school uses every year. But, once I have the hat done, I'll post a picture!

Hi, cool tutorial but by any chance do you have a print out link thing to the pattern, I just really don't want to mess it up

Hi! Great tutorial! But, I'm a super beginner. Could you tell me what measurements/other info I may need? Thank you so much!

Awww thank you! I'm glad you like the tutorial! I'm not sure if you've found it already but I do have all the measurements for the hat pattern itself. The only measurement you should need is the size of your head that way you can figure out if you'll need to extend the size of the hat.
here is a link to the pattern measurements ---> mishacosplay.deviantart.com/ar…
good luck with your hat!

Is a liner necessary? Cause i'm not sure I bought enough fabric. I only brought a yard.

the lining isn't necessary at all.
I actually found that a yard was more than enough for the lining as well but its all up to you. ^^
Good luck!

Would this work with cat ears? Because next weekend, I plan to do this sometime. Just some color I like, and.... KITTY!

MishaCosplay In reply to Cats-In-Middle-Earth [2013-09-17 23:55:29 +0000 UTC]
it should work fine with cat ears. I edited the original Finn hat with the tiny bear-like ears to work with long bunny ears so a cat ear should be fine. ^^

What kind of stuffing did you use? Also how full did you stuff the ears? Because I used a polyester based stuffing which holds the shape better. It's often used when making stuffed animals. I also packed it in quite a bit.

Demelaa In reply to MishaCosplay [2013-09-07 21:09:28 +0000 UTC]
it's 100% polyester stuffing at got at walmart. I tried limited stuffing, then I over stuffed it and then medium stuffing. Nothing worked. So I cut some pieces of hanger wire and sewed it inside. Now they kind of stay up lol

I am working on one right now and I was just wondering the circle piece would that change if you made piece #1 smaller to fit you head??
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
MishaCosplay In reply to paloliyf [2013-08-03 18:27:55 +0000 UTC]
Yes the circle piece will get smaller. Just trim about half an inch or so off the edges of the circle and it will fit fine to your hat. ^^ Good luck!

I tried stuffing it and stuff it with the wire. I really packed it in but they keep flopping over. Any advice?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
MishaCosplay In reply to Adventure-Cosplay9 [2013-04-26 15:04:16 +0000 UTC]
hmmmm, what kind of stuffing did you use? I'm using a type of stuffed animal stuffing called polyfill its polyester fibers so it's a bit more stiff and will hold shape better.

Adventure-Cosplay9 In reply to MishaCosplay [2013-04-30 04:18:55 +0000 UTC]
That's what I used. I ended up making almost a head band of solid wire that was ear shaped and it stayed up. Thank you for your tutorial it inspired me. I appreciate you getting back to my comment as well.
