Description
Daphne and her Mum. Elizabeth Blake spends some rare one on one time with the youngest of her 5 daughters..........
Fair warning, I have never actually seen a piano in real life before and I know pretty much nothing about them aside from what I could gather from photos. Sooo... you know, don't look too closely at this one kay?

Yeah, I don’t fully get why they all had to have such bad home lives. The gang are generally so happy and well adjusted, it just doesn’t make sense.

Nicely done piece, we don't get enough pics of Daphne with her parents. The piano looks pretty good too.

There seems to be no difference, in looks, between Daphne and her mother.

I'm not so great at keeping on model just yet so the differences might be a little hard to see if they aren't side by side. Elizabeth is supposed to look like Daphne but paler, taller, curvier and thinner in the face with smaller eyes.

This is so sweet, could you possibly think about doing something with Daphne and her sisters?

Thanks I'm glad you like it! I was actually thinking of doing one with her sisters included sometime soon one and another one with fred and his older brother too. The next two or three have already been sketched out but when they are done I'll probably do the sibling pics. All I really need now is more spare time.

Oh, so you used the reference about Daphne as having four older sisters from Mystery Incorporated for your headcanon, isn't it? But at least this look more like a happy family related scene that supposed to be, unlike in that series. Elizabeth looks lovely!
Eh, don't worry about the piano, it's all right. I'm not used to this instrument, either, although I've seen it in some of my relatives's houses.

Yeah the sisters thing came from mystery incorporated, the name Elizabeth was her mothers name in the pup series and the hair came from mystery incorporated. Personality wise shes not really like either, shes quiet, kind, well mannered and well spoken however shes also a little bit reserved about showing affection. So she does love Daphne, shes just not very good at showing it. That and between planning charity events and her four other daughters that are much more full on, Daphne often ends up feeling a little forgotten. Not on purpose, its just her Mum is too busy.
As for the piano, the stings were the part that confused me the most. I didn't even know pianos had strings! I tried to hide them behind the plant but it wasn't very effective, hehe. Oh well

Nice details about her. But what does Daphne as a teenager feel about her mother? I mean does she still feel a bit lonely or not?
Oh, yep, for some people it's quite hard to show affection and I think I'm one of them, too... And it's a bit hard for me to say anything to someone if he/she is upset in real life...
Oh, the strings. Well, I knew that pianos have strings thanks to an episode of "Tom and Jerry". Oh, I remember that I watched a lot of times on some video tapes of multiple episodes of this cartoon, especially the awarded ones, and one of them was a funny way of playing a classic melody on piano. It was this one: www.dailymotion.com/video/x39z… (I can oly find modified or fractured videos on youtube due to the problem with copyright) and it's called "The cat concerto".
It was so good...

I like to think as a teenager Daphne understands her Mum better and has learnt to spot the more subtle ways that her Mum shows she cares. Its not like she didn't have people who loved her and her friends mums would have filled the mum void the best they could but there's something about feeling forgotten by her own mother that really bothered her. When Daphne was 14 she got hurt during a mystery she was resting in the hospital when she overheard her mother freaking out in the hall. This was the first time she fully understood that her Mum did love her but sucked at showing it. Since then, once a week Daphne sneaks up on her mother and springs a surprise hug on her. Her mother doesn't hug back and at first it was just stiff and a little awkward but after a few months of it she has grown to secretly enjoy them. Who knows, maybe one day she will hug back.
The strings were impossible to get right so I just kinda winged it, those old cartoons are crazy I cant believe they drew every frame by hand. That piano looks really good too, I wish mine had turned out more like that. Oh well I guess I need more practise

Yeah that version was pretty cold hearted and I didn't really like her at all. So mixed daphnes mystery incorporated mum with the pup named Scooby Doo version then I tweaked them and added a few bits and peices to make this one.

Trust me. That was one of the reasons I hated that show. It showed no interest in it’s characters or thier bond as friends.
That’s why I enjoyed Pup Named Scooby-Doo because despite it being a silly show. It did have a good amount of seriousness that worked to the show’s advantage.

If or when you decide to take requests, here's what I'd like to see.
Madelyn, too enticed to tell Shaggy he's in his underwear (boxers shorts with food on them seen in Frankencreepy) gives him a hug.

Sorry dude I don't do requests. Never have, never will.
A lot of other people seem pretty open to doing them though, so I'm sure if you ask around a bit you will be able to find someone else willing to do that for you.
Good luck

Now, this is a fun one too ... while Mom learned the basics on the piano, it was my crazy Aunt Sara who learned how to play even better. She and my Uncle Vincent used to go down to New Orleans during the summer and play on Bourbon Street, my aunt on the piano and my uncle on the saxophone or the guitar, depending on the song or what might be needed. I was told later that Mom often sang too ... which, I think, is how Mom and Pop met, though I could be wrong.
There is something about the piano that's fascinated me, not enough to learn unfortunately. I tried learning the violin, but I was too restless to stick to it. I got the basics down and that was about it. Later, I would try to learn the guitar, thanks to a friend, but once again, I found that I didn't have what it took. But I still love music.

Pretty musical family you have there! No one in my family really plays music and if they do they do it in secret. Like I practise the harmonica when no one is home and hide it in my sock drawer, my brother has a guitar somewhere that I overheard him play late once and gran plays the accordion but I only found that out when she got wine drunk. My family mocks people who try new things and the mockery gets multiplied if you aren't very good and multiplied again if the original slew of mockery makes you give up (being a thin skinned quitter is worse than being a try hard) Then you get mocked some more for trying in the first place so its best to just keep things secret. Oh well no ones family is perfect.

Oh ouch ... I'm sorry to hear that.
As you have probably come to this conclusion, that was NOT the case for my family. Now, while we might not understand why the person does what they do, we often stand behind them and support them with their efforts. For myself, I can speak with clarity and distinctiveness. My folks, especially my mother, did not often understand my drawing, but Pop always found it fascinating as did my Big Sister. Pop used to come into my bed room and watch me work for an hour or so, I could be drawing spaceships, sci-fi, or swords and sorcery stuff and he was good with it. Mom often tried to get me to do landscapes and scenery, buildings and such since she thought that's what real artists did. It wouldn't be until a friend of mine from SCAD traveled with me down to Bonifay, Florida and talked with my Mom about some of his stuff that she realized that I could make a lot of money doing this sort of thing ... it's sort of hard to do when you are now as busy as I, but nevertheless, she finally understood what Pop and I had said. Now, my Big Sister used to watch me draw ... and after my niece got married, my Big Sister got to watch me color a piece of my work. It's not the best piece, but it was one of the more fun pieces I have in my gallery ... and she was so tickled, even more so when I mentioned the time I got to spend with her while working on it.
Mom often wished I had taken up the "pen" like she did and write, for she thought I had the gift of doing that better than I do drawing ... and I believe that she is right. Years ago, back in the 1980s, we went all together to New York City, having Pop drive all night to get us there before 10 am, for a meeting with Mom's agent or publisher ... I want to say it was the publisher ... anyways, I was working on a story that's been lost to time called Soul Quest, a super heroine's trials and tribulation of growing up and still doing the right thing. Now, this was done back when I was ... I think twelve or thirteen years old. It was about three hundred pages, all single spaced, so it could have been double that if done right, but Mom read the whole thing with my blushed permission ... and she thought it had so much potential! I had forgotten about the "hot-tub scene" and Mom thought that was one of the best scenes she'd read. Pop did not laugh ... it goes to show his discipline ... and neither did Mom, but it would be the last story of mine she would read. I regret that, but ... I never could bring myself to read hers.
I'm very blessed to have had both parents who inspired in their own ways the level of creativity that I have been gifted with. If more people had folks like mine, I think ... I'm pretty sure I know ... that the world would be a better place.

Eh its cool. They don't mean anything by it, they just don't know how to be supportive. Their parents weren't supportive either and that trend goes back many generations. My Mum tries to be, but shes a first generation good parent so even though she tries her best she hasn't had anyone to model it for her so sometimes she slips up. But no one is perfect and the fact that shes trying to be makes her pretty close to it in my eyes.

I cannot help but to weep for that thought, my friend. I cannot imagine what that can be like, not to have people who are supportive, but I can understand the mindset of how they didn't know how to be anything other than they are. It's hard to say the least to break out of the mold of how you were cast by those who raised you, to be more than they, and yet ... personally, I have found that I'm trying to be. "The first generation of a good parent" ... an interesting thought to be sure.
