agreed, i had to redye it every two-three weeks. i'm using atomic turquoise now and it lasts really long though!

Nice! I've never dyed my hair before so I've been asking people I stumble across all the same questions. Apparently Manic Panic is good then? I shall have to check it out...

It's a good idea to know these kind of things before you start dyeing you hair 
Manic Panic works well as long as you bleach your hair first (if you are using an unnatural colour). It also fades fairly quickly (every 2-3 weeks for me) but there is enough in the container that I can touch it up when that happens. If you have long hair and/or are dyeing your whole head you might want to try a dye that lasts a bit longer just because it could get expensive if you have to keep redoing it. Hope that helps!

The bleaching part makes me a bit wary to try since I'm worried it'll damage my hair, but on pretty much everyone I see it doesn't seem to have much of an effect so maybe I'm just unnecessarily concerned.
When I first try it out I'll probably just do a small portion to see how it works first.

Bleaching can really go either way - it depends how long you leave it in for and how you take care of the hair afterwards. My hair isn't very damaged at all, since I only needed to bleach it to an orangey-blond to dye over with a fairly dark green. The bleaching makes the hair more porous so that the dye can stay better. If I wanted a light colour, like spring green, I would have to bleach it to white which would damage it more (although I hear that bleaching it to orange-blond, waiting a couple weeks, and then bleaching again to get white can work pretty well). Also, since my hair isn't very processed right now (I don't usually straighten it, etc.) that keeps it from getting too damaged.
Trying a small portion sounds like a good idea, since everyone's hair is a bit different for these things.
Here is the Manic Panic website if it helps: [link] They have a few colours that look to work well without bleaching, such as Vampire Red, so if you are really concerned about damaging your hair you might want to try something like that.

Oh I see. I didn't know about the porous part. I thought the bleach just made the natural color go away so you could see the dye more clearly. But I guess the bleach actually helps it to soak in then.
