Aww, he's cute. My friend said when their fins are all closed like that it means they're scared or nervous. n.n

That's so cute.. A camera shy fishy.

i love betas they are so driven by instincts aren't they

have you bred them

the male tries to kill the female after the eggs are layed to protect the eggs which he looks after in the bubble nest

it is so facinating

Daydreamer6123 In reply to jakwak [2009-03-17 16:34:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I tried that once but one of the sex's were immature so nothing came of it. It really is fascinating though.

Yes, betas are nifty.
No, I have not bred them. or anything for that matter.
Thanks for your interesting comments.

I used to have a beta named Tony too ^-^

I need to get a new one. Betas are really beautiful fish.

After my Tony died I got a white beta that I named Phelps xD
But I cleaned his tank at some point and I guess there was something wrong with the water because even though I used the water conditioner, he died. I got two more in the course of 1 week and they both died within a day Dx
It was too sad and I didn't want to keep killing betas so I decided to get hermit crabs instead

aww thats so sad!
Iv had a couple of white betas. One was Angel and the other was Gabriel. All my betas seemed to die around the same time frame. I was so sad. I figured out what went wrong though, what happened was that i kept them all near the kitchen window and when the seasons changed so did the weather of course and the window let in the cold =[ i was so sad.

Yeah I cried when Tony passed. I felt kind of stupid but I'd had him for a good year and a half o.O You get attached to the little guys =\
Wow and to think it was something as minuscule as tank placement
I guess that would make sense though. Fish are so finicky and difficult to keep because the smallest thing can effect them in huge ways.

Its very true. Thankfully hermit crabs arn't so picky.

And yeah, don't feel stupid, I cried too. A pet is a pet.

That's a very good shot! (also considering that it was taken through a glass/plasit barrier, right?)
Beta have a tendency to look droopy/depressed, but you've captured Fruitrollup in a nice light.

Shuriken22 In reply to Russiancrantz [2008-01-21 23:42:10 +0000 UTC]

Probably because people keep them in ridiculously small jars or vases rather than in a small fish tank with some scenery...

Russiancrantz In reply to Shuriken22 [2008-01-22 00:29:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know, right? Those creepy little blue plastic containers make me depressed. I'm glad this fish has a nicer home

jakwak In reply to Russiancrantz [2008-02-03 13:45:27 +0000 UTC]

do you know that in the wild they live in water in a depression of a buffalos food print size hole

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Russiancrantz In reply to jakwak [2008-02-03 21:54:11 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I've heard that they rescue the fish from puddles in whatever region they live in. Pretty crazy stuff!

Fruitrollup is anything BUT droopy/depressed. : )

l30N In reply to MissMilly [2008-02-05 09:20:58 +0000 UTC]

they always look droopy until they feel defensive, only then do they poof up. if you want a really good shot of his fins try putting a mirror next to his bowl so he thinks theres another fish. not for too long though, they get exhausted!

How did you get such a good picture!? I've been trying to get a picture of mine for ages, but they never turn out well.

His name is Troy. I think he's pretty special.

This was just a lucky shot. I did have quite a few blurry ones as well...
Also, I'm sure Troy is a special fella.
