Description The second tutorial, I would recommend reading the first [link] as well.
I was kinda tired towards the end, so I went through it really fast. I'd appreciate any input.

"...I chose the impossible. I chose... Inkscape. Editor where the artist would not fear resizing. Where the brony would not be bound by petty colours. Where the great would not be constrained by the small. And with the sweat of your brow, Inkscape can become your editor as well."

I have NO IDEA what I'm doing on this. Can someone explain how to draw the pony?

Well, I'd recommend reading through my other tutorials , especially What is SVG and curves . This should introduce the basic tools you'd want to use for making a pony of your own.

This is WAY WAY back, but you can use the bezier tool to make a shape that fits the fill, then fill the bezier shape in.

Of all the inkscape vectoring tutorials I've seen, this is the most informative AND the easiest to understand! Thank you sooo much! Especially for the tip about the eyes? All the other ones talked about clipping masks, yadda yadda, and those took SOOO much longer!

I'd love to, but I don't speak Spanish, sorry. :[
I could try to translate the one that's more up to date , but I'm afraid I would fail miserably.

Me encantarΓa, pero yo no hablo espaΓ±ol. :[
Yo podrΓa tratar de traducir la reciente , pero serΓa un fracaso.

Hey I can translate it for you, I will full credit you and well provide it here if you want to... I'll upload it to my Sta.sh give you the link and you can post it as your own work, I'll just translate the thing xD to Spanish.

MisterAibo In reply to sorata-daidouji [2012-04-20 22:27:16 +0000 UTC]

You could, but I would actually appreciate you translating the new tutorials even more. You know, the ones with the Professor. [link] [link] [link] [link]
The thing is that this tutorial is outdated and a bit too sketchy - I try to explain the basics of inkscape with the new tutorials. If you would translate those, you can of course leave then on your own dA page. I'd also link you in the description and probably even the associated tumblr . I'd like to reach as many people as I can.
I you're willing, write me a note. I'd tell you some details, maybe give you the tutorials without any text so I make your work easier.

So if you want to provide me with them I'll translate them and let you know when I'm done and we'll see if you or me will post them xD I'm ok with just knowing I helped you get more people into reading them since they are really good n.n

404compliant [2012-02-21 20:19:16 +0000 UTC]

Pretty impressive though very much low tech. One thing I wouldn't want to live without is the use of Object>Clip. Always helpful if several objects should have a common outer shape.
For eyes, I usually use two clip paths, one to cut off the pupil (the pupil itself is a simple box plus the two stripes, the elliptic shape is the cut path), the other to clip the whole eye so it looks like being 'under' the skin.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MisterAibo In reply to 404compliant [2012-02-21 20:45:11 +0000 UTC]

Right you are! And I did talk about those things in the eyes tutorial and the little things tutorial .
I guess you keep learning new things, so these tutorials do get a bit outdated.

Zeitgeist-SP [2011-11-24 09:22:22 +0000 UTC]

It seems a little needlessly complicated... I just hold and drag the bezier curve tool as I go and then it creates curves without having to go back and change things. But hey, if it works, it works!

Also, loving the Bioshock quote in the description xD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MisterAibo In reply to Zeitgeist-SP [2011-11-24 09:56:13 +0000 UTC]

Well, dragging is a bit impractical because holding the mouse button reduces your (or my, at least) accuracy. As far as I can tell, you can never achieve the same degree of precision if you don't dedicate time to your work. This way, it might take you twice the time, but every line will be as perfect as you make it. Not as perfect as your smoothing algorithm makes it.

But you know, whatever you wanna do is fine.

Neato, thanks for this insightful tutorial; a few tricks I haven't heard of before, like making the highlights from a transparent white, which were great to add to my method. Also, it's good to see that the general method I use to vectorise is actually correct; I learned by piecing together fragments of irrelevant tutorials for the wrong software. If only I'd had this, things would have been so (relatively) simple! This is probably the best Inkscape pony-vector tutorial I've seen yet, to be honest.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MisterAibo In reply to Eamon-Valda [2011-10-04 12:42:49 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Well, to be honest, some of those tricks are a bit out of date. Two in particular:
Darkening the feet by adding a transparent black layer (I mostly just change the colour nowadays, since it can benefit from having different hue).
And not using smooth nodes and of manually smoothing them instead (that is indeed a foolishness on my part).
Also, as was mentioned earlier, I say nothing of colour picker tool - that was also an oversight.
But you do flatter me by saying my method is "correct" - there is always room for improvement and I've yet to devise the "perfect" solution (or at least the best I can think of).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Eamon-Valda In reply to MisterAibo [2011-10-05 04:47:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I tend to change the colour myself to get it just right, and I was wondering a little about the second to be honest

And I would say that any method that works for the person using it is 'correct'; just that this happens to work for me

Very helpful. All it didn't tell me was how to use the dropper, but I Googled that.

Helped me make this , earning my place in the MLP Vector Club. So thanks.
