Description Remember this design? [link]

Finally got it inked onto my skin today at a wonderful new parlor in my hometown. The artist was excellent, very talented and very fun to work with, despite my fear of needles and utter wimpiness when it comes to being stabbed multiple times near my shin-bone. He re-pierced my navel and ear cartilage for me as well, replacing rings I had to have removed after the car accident in March.

I am so happy with this tattoo, I don't even know what to say. Seriously. Promised myself I could get it if I finished my thesis or got a job ... turned in my thesis a month ago and landed a job two weeks ago. This is art I earned, and I'm very proud of it.

Design's mine, by the way. I freehanded it at work four years ago. It's nice to finally have it inked into my skin. : )

I had to create a design to represent me in middle school and came up with the exact same design. o.o It's amazing how I did that years ago and here I see it on someone's skin. I applaud you on your creativity! ^.^

I'm really glad you like it! I'd prefer if others didn't get exactly the same tattoo, since this is my own design and has such deep meaning for me. If you'd like to use the idea and incorporate it into your own design, though, that would be fine! Link me to a picture if you do. I'd love to see it!

I have one on my lower back, off to the side (not a tramp-stamp - it's higher and on fattier skin) that tickled at first and kind of burned later on, like when you have a sunburn and you scratch at it will blunt fingernails. Not bad at all.

This one on my leg, though - it felt like I was being peeled with a potato-peeler the entire time. Not excruciatingly painful, but not at all pleasant. It only took the artist maybe 30 minutes tops, though, with a break while he did the shading (which was done first with pen, then with the tattoo gun), so it was definitely very bearable and so, so worth it.

Okay. So like, let's say I get a tattoo about the size of the one on your leg(not saying I'll get the same one) do you have any suggestions on where to get it? Because I'm hoping to get my first tattoo and I'm scared it might hurt like the dickens.

Did the one of your back just feel like you could handle it for a long period of time?

mistr3ssquickly In reply to BrickByBoringBrick12 [2011-05-16 00:34:51 +0000 UTC]

For me, the one on my back tickled at first, then burned. The one on my leg felt like I was being peeled. But both were worth it.

Tattoos hurt, period. It's part of the attraction to getting them, for me. And afterwards, the endorphin rush is ... well, really kind of addictive.

Go with a good friend who won't faint, hold their hand, and don't watch as you're getting inked. If it's a design you really love, it'll be well-worth the pain. Good luck!

That's cool! The middle looks kinda like one of those intricate celtic knots. Did you notice that? Was that part of the design?

mistr3ssquickly In reply to SwampLogger15 [2010-10-06 00:39:41 +0000 UTC]

Haha, that's the point of the design, actually (I designed it). The idea is that we're all intricately linked - each part of the other - and whatever damage we do to others, we're ultimately doing to ourselves.

That's very clever Did you design that yourself?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mistr3ssquickly In reply to MaZiLyNX [2010-08-11 10:40:48 +0000 UTC]

I did! Designed it many years ago, then when I was 24, decided I'd get it inked into my skin if I finished my thesis. Then it wasn't looking like the thesis was going to happen, so I promised myself I'd get it done if I got a job.

I turned in my thesis a few days before the college for which I work now called and hired me, and at that point decided I'd earned the tattoo. Only took ... oh, three years, maybe? since designing it to get it on my skin. XD

Hi!

I'm so totally flattered that you like the design so much! That's awesome. I'm waffling though about the idea of you getting it ... on the one hand, it'd be really cool to have my work inked into someone's skin, but on the other hand, that would mean that my tattoo isn't really unique anymore, you know?

Would it be possible maybe for you to change it a little, maybe add some of your own personality to it? Then it'd be unique for both of us. Let me know what you think, please!

It always really bothers me when people generalize about tattoos, saying "they never have meaning, it's such a stupid trend," because some of us have ink that DOES mean something, you know? /rant

I'm glad you like my tat!

Haha yeah, no prob! I think the older generation is much less understanding about body art than we are, but tattoos with meaning are definitely the best :3

Agreed. I work for a very strict Catholic school, so I do my best to keep my tattoo under wraps. Not only would the Sisters not approve of the ink in general, they'd flip if they saw the meaning of this one ...

Honestly, the only thing that would make it better would be to get it rainbow gradient colored. Which would hurt. And I no want Molly hurt. But, it looks awesome and is a wonderful design

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mistr3ssquickly In reply to AngelsInMyUnderpants [2009-02-21 19:57:25 +0000 UTC]

It's not so much a statement of gay rights as it is a statement of human rights and cooperation, so I'm not sure I'd like it better in rainbow. And besides that, color's expensive and it fades after only a few years, so I'm not much a fan of it. : P

Thanks!

AngelsInMyUnderpants In reply to mistr3ssquickly [2009-02-25 06:18:09 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I wasn't saying it should be a gay pride rainbow, I think a rainbow can incorporate more sentiment than that. Besides, I love rainbows. Also, yes, fading and expense are why it wouldn't work out too well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mistr3ssquickly In reply to AngelsInMyUnderpants [2009-02-25 22:20:20 +0000 UTC]

I see. The usual american association with rainbow is gay rights, so I'd be spending half my time explaining the real meaning of the tat to folks.

Which would probably annoy me. Not hard to do. XD

mistr3ssquickly In reply to Rush-the-chosen-one [2009-02-18 21:49:55 +0000 UTC]

I live 2 miles from my parents and only a few hours' drive from my grandmother. I tattoo because I'm old enough to make my own choices about such things; they can either love me or hate me for it.

The orgy thing's funny, but the actual meaning behind the tattoo is very different.
