PAGE ONE: (one panel)

Panel 1: Night. Head-to-Head view of a F-117A bomber’s outline, dropping a bomb. Outline of mountains below. Dots of lights around the bomber: Escort Fighters.

1 CAP: TORA-BORA MOUNTAIN RANGE, AFGHANISTAN-WINTER, 2002.

2 SFX: F-117’s ENGINES.
3 SFX: Sound of BOMBS dropping.

4 TITLE: AN INSTINCT FOR SURVIVAL

PAGE TWO: (Six panels)

Panel 1: A bomb explodes at the side of a hill. A cavern where Al-Quaeda fighters are hiding lies nearby. Outlines of bodies outside the cavern taking the blast.
1 CAP: ALLAH’S HOLY WARRIORS ARE ON THE RUN THESE TIMES.

Panel 2: Traditionally dressed, Al Quaeda warriors on fire around the place the bomb fell. Other Al Quaeda warriors walking out of the cave, holding their ears, from where blood flows. Trees are on fire.
2 SFX: Screams.
3 CAP: DEATH COMES FROM EVERYWHERE, AND IT HAS MORE THAN ONE FORM…

Panel  3: Shadowy, vaguely human form, walking on all fours, looking at the site behind a tree that is on fire.
4 SFX: Sniffing.
5 CAP: …THE SMELL OF RECENT DEATH IS ALWAYS AROUND.

Panel 4: The form is standing on its back legs, motionless, scanning the area, sniffing and trying to hear.
6 CAP: THE AFGHANI MOUNTAINS ARE QUITE INHOSPITABLE, AS THE JYHAD CONTINUES.

Panel 5: Bird’s Eye View: The form approaches, walking on all fours, to the slowly burning dead bodies.
7 CAP: CORPSES ARE TO BE THE ONLY TROPHIES OF THIS WAR.

Panel 6: The form is holding a half-burnt human arm, preparing to eat it. Moon on eclipse at the background.
8 CAP: TROPHIES- OR FOOD.

PAGE THREE: (five panels)

Panel 1: Opposite the crash site, on another hill, two US special forces units are observing the impact site. 3rd person view, from behind, of a sniper lying on the ground, with a long range sniper rifle positioned in front of him. He observes the explosion’s results using goggles. Beside him, another soldier, knelt, checks the area out with his own night observation equipment.
1 CAP: THE US RAIDING PARTY’S MISSION IS A SUCCESS. THE AFGHANI UNDERGROUND BASE HAS BEEN HIT!

Panel 2: Goggle view of the bomb’s point of impact. More people coming out of the cavern. People dead, burning.
2 CAP: USING A LASER DESIGNATOR, TEAM ALS-616 “LIT” THE GUERILLA HIDING PLACE. SOPHISTICATED ELECTRONIC DEVICES DID THE REST.

Panel 3: Face view of the knelt soldier, who is the team leader, Captain Niles of the Rangers. Determined, battle-hardened face.
3 CAP: CAPTAIN NILES OF THE RANGERS IS NOT SATISFIED, HOWEVER. THE TEAM IS NOT TO WITHDRAW YET.
4 CAP: THIS IS A CHANCE TO INFLICT MORE LOSSES TO THOSE THAT HAVE EMERGED FROM THEIR ROCKY SHELL.

Panel 4: Captain Niles’ eye. The fire at the hill opposite is reflected on the eye’s pupil.
5 CAP: THIS IS A CHANCE TO END THE MISERABLE LIFE OF THOSE RATS!

Panel 5: The sniper shakes Captain Nile’s shoulder, giving him his goggles.
6 NILES: (whisper) WHAT IS IT?
7 SNIPER: (whisper) SIR, TAKE A LOOK THERE… WHAT CAN YOU SEE?
8 NILES: (whisper) LET ME SEE…

PAGE FOUR: (Six panels)
Panel 1: Side view of Captain Niles looking through the sniper’s binoculars. The sniper points somewhere with his finger.
1 NILES: (whisper) WHERE DO I LOOK?
2 SNIPER: (whisper) THERE, SIR, NEAR THE BURNT BODIES…
3 NILES: (whisper) THE ONE STANDING? GOT IT…

Panel 2: Captain Niles’ eyes narrowing, behind the goggles.
Panel 3: Captain Niles’ jaw dropping.
4 NILES: GOOD GOD…
5 (OP)SNIPER: (whisper) WHAT DO WE DO NOW,SIR?

Panel 4: Captain Niles drops the goggles, shocked. The sniper shakes him.
6 SNIPER: SIR, WHAT DO WE DO? ARE YOU ALL RIGHT?

Panel 5: Captain Niles touching his ear, where the intercom sensor is. He is still shocked.
7 NILES: STATIONS ONE, TWO AND THREE, DO YOU READ?
8 STATION ONE: (RADIO) STATION ONE READS, SIR.
9 STATION TWO: (RADIO) STATION TWO READS, SIR.
10 STATION THREE: (RADIO) STATION THREE READS, SIR.

Panel 6: 3rd person view of Captain Niles, talking to the rest of the team through his intercom.
11 NILES: DEPART IMMEDIATELY. I REPEAT: DEPART IMMEDIATELY AND HEAD TO THE MUSTER AREA FOUR. DURATION OF MARCH IS TO BE NO MORE THAN FIFTEEN MINUTES. HERMES-ONE, MAKE CONTACT WITH THE BIRDS-AWAY TEAM. GIVE A PICK-UP POINT AT THE SECOND POINT OF EXTRACTION, PRECISELY AT 02:25 HOURS. CONFIRM.
12 STATION ONE: (RADIO) STATION ONE CONFIRMS, LEAVING AREA NOW.
13 STATION TWO: (RADIO) STATION TWO CONFIRMS, LEAVING AREA NOW.
14 STATION THREE: (RADIO) STATION THREE CONFIRMS, LEAVING AREA NOW. HERMES-ONE COPIES. MAKING THE CONTACT NOW SIR. OVER.

PAGE FIVE: (Four panels)

Panel 1: The Captain is departing, more in panic than with the usual military caution. He looks at the sniper. His eyes have a crazy look. The sniper is disassembling his rifle.
1 NILES: RAMIREZ! PICK UP YOUR STUFF NOW! WE’RE LEAVING.
2 SNIPER: YES SIR!

Panel 2: View from behind, of the humanoid that is eating the entrails of a dead Al Quaeda warrior, over whom he is standing.
3 CAP: HE HAS ALREADY EATEN TWO BIG CHUNKS OF JUICY HUMAN FLESH, ITS BLOOD STILL WARM.
4 CAP: HE SMELLS THE AIR THAT STINKS OF BURNT FLESH AND DEATH.

Panel 3: Full glorious view of the form: He is human, with torn rags-once clothes- wrapped around him. His eyes glare with craze. Blood (perhaps also human flesh?) is dripping from his mouth.
5 CAP: IT IS THE SAME SMELL THAT LED HIM, HASSAN IBN LENTARI AND HIS PACK –ONCE FRIENDS AND COMRADES IN ARMS- OUT OF THEIR HOLES.
6 CAP: IT IS THE SAME SMELL THAT TELLS THEM WHERE TO SEARCH FOR FOOD.
7 CAP: HASSAN’S MIND AND LOGIC MAY HAVE BEEN SHATTERED FOREVER;BUT HIS PRIMAL INSTINCT-A REMAINDER OF A TIME WHEN HUMANS WERE NOT YET HUMANS- IS STILL ACTIVE…

Panel 4: Erect on his feet, holding pieces of human flesh, Hassan is howling triumphantly. A crescent, bit clouded moon can be seen behind him. More of his “pack” are appearing behind the bushes, beyond the trees, near the flames, approaching the point of impact of the bomb. The outlines of their bodies, and the glare of their eyes can be seen.

thats one of the greatest comic stories i'v read the last years
i dont usualy enjoy reading or even writing... in fact i am disleksikos
but something told me to read this story and something told me to write this comment

you are talendo and this because you have a great sance of how should things be given to the reader of a comic
story something like a good comic skinothetis which is veryu dificult

you really did a very good job here... it should be really easy to make a comic with such a nice story line....
as for the story it self... i can smell death.... i can smell the blood but first of all i smell a good and quite unique story... i wish you would upload more of the story... i want to see how it continues...

The scenes are presented with clarity. It seems like this would be an interesting read indeed! I would love to see the different angles and perspectives of the figures. It seems so ominous!
