Description Hi! Why don't you tell us a bit about yourself?

I'm Iris Rowan, I'm sixteen years old. I like poetry, Starbucks, and making fun of tourists. I don't like school or Shakespeare, because we have read all 50,000 of his plays at school, as we are home of the Shakespeare Festival, Ashland, Oregon.

Tell me a little about your family…mine's totally weird. I hope yours is better!

My parents fled to Alaska after a run-in with the law, and I live with my older brother Jake and his annoying girlfriend, Helen. Jake writes for the Ashland Daily Tidings, covering the Shakespeare Festival usually since he can't get a job as an actual actor in it. Helen is as beautiful and as war-causing as her namesake, the face that launched 1,000 ships. So yeah, pretty weird.

So tell me, what are you afraid of most of all?

I'm afraid that my best friend, Avie, is going to be hurt when I'm not there to protect her. I'm afraid I'll be stuck in this tourist trap for the rest of my natural life.

What is your best childhood/earliest memory?

Jake was a truck driver after college, when he was "between jobs", as he told anyone who inquired after his career, not wanting to admit to a non-shiny one. He'd talk me with him on night shifts, and even though I wasn't buckled in, I always felt safe and loved. Especially in the morning, when we stopped at an all-hour diner and he'd read aloud to me, even though he was sleepy, just chugging down coffee and never once complaining, never once asking for a break.

Have you ever loved someone enough that you'd give your life for them?

My brother and Ava. In a heartbeat.

Truthfully…any Mary Sue traits?

I make my bed every morning, I always study for tests(even if I never do the homework), I've only got to first base, and that was three years ago, in a game of spin-the-bottle. I left when they started playing Seven Minutes In Heaven.

that's pretty awesome. Also I fear the same thing as her. Being stuck in this tourest trap of a town.

lol. Yeah, I've actually been to Ashland and it is pretty tourist-trappy.
You'll get out eventually, don't worry.

Southampton is definantly a tourest rap, but it's a big city too, however there seems to be nothing for teens to do unlike coventry where they have a ice skating rink.

Teens are not the main percentage of the tourist contingent, no...

OMIGOD PARALLELS. Making fun of tourists....is just what you do if you live(d) briefly in Italy! Ha. And not hating Shakespeare...but ah, Ashland. I reallly want to go there again. Feeling a bit Shakespeare-deprived.

And your character has an awesome name. Possibly the awesomest plant-related name I can think of at the moment.

And yay! You did the meme. That was quite fun.

It was quite fun! I am having trouble finding other cool, simple, unique names though.

Hmm. I just use normal ones, when writing normal stuff. Or make weird ones up. Other kinda interesting names (some plant ones) are Belladonna, Ivy, Holly, and Ash, though Belladonna's poisonous...

Ivy and Ash are especially pretty. Holly has sort of devolved with the Carrie's and the Maddy's of the world.

Ash has a kind of transient sound to it.

Wicked background! Iris is much more interesting now (if that's possible). Great job!

Great! I was reading advice on writing stories and it said you should map out the background story first, otherwise it takes up to much of the novel. So that's sort of what I was trying to do.

I think that does make it easier. And this is a great backstory.

Awwww, honey - that story with your brother Jake really touched my heart. What a lovely man!

Are things okay with your parents?
