I'm tired of hiding

Actually, I take that back
I kind of like hiding
(behind the bushes,
Up in the trees,
Stretched out on the concrete
With the shelter roof
Outside of school,
As you hear the rain
But it doesn't touch you)

I like hiding under sweaters-
We are less body-conscious
Than in our coconut sunscreen days,
Because it's hard to appear
Skinny in clothes that keep
You warm, anyway
(It's easier to keep secrets
That are written over your skin)

I like hiding in coffeehouses
And refills of tea and
No one knowing the words inside
The book I'm reading
Or the poem I clack out
On my laptop

I like that we're our
More private selves
By our fireplaces-
We're fragile as icicles, sure,
But the need-to-know basis
Leaves our worries light as snow
