I was recently commissioned to draw some characters in a cute Anime style...something I don't normally have a lot of interest in, but where money is concerned I'll do anything short of personal humiliation or murder. Anyway, after trying to get a handle on the drawing style I found myself wondering how Velma might look in that style. As it turned out, I think she's quite cute.Related content

Well I remember Velma from the original 1969 premier, and I have always thought she was a bit chunky under that sweater. I try to reflect that in my Velma art. Much of which is NOT suitable for DA. But if you're interested in seeing any of it....let me know. I can LINK you.
These days other artist always draw her either too thin, or like inflated! She is neitehr! She's has a nice 'pooch', full thighs and a nice big butt! I fear the thinner MYSTERY INC. Velma is influencing a younger generation, hence the THIN/anime-style Velma that I see much too often.

word! Dont' doubt the anime style! haha. It's all about twisting the style and departing from the stereotype of big eyes and tiny tiny noses and making it your own. And you've done just that here. And call me crazy but I feel like you've done something in the way you color? Like, I'm noticing those streaks of highlight along her shoes and hair--very subtle usage and very effective.

Thanks very much. It's nice when someone notices those little details that make such a big difference in a piece, but which rarely get noticed by most folks. It's so easy to just drop in flat colors inside an outline, or maybe add a single darker shade along an edge of an area to suggest the turning of form and/or shadow. But it's those subtle little highlights that can really give an image image.
