It feels good to watch something new from Matt Groening. As much as I like both Simpsons and Futurama it is good to see him tell new stories with new characters. This show is a lot of fun and lets us know that Matt Groening still can make great stuff even after all of this time. With its well done animation, entertaining and fun characters, hilarious and clever jokes, and an interesting ongoing story I would say that this is a great show. Princess Bean is a rare type of protagonist to see in an adult cartoon. What we usually get is a dumb yet lovable male protagonist which can be well done if you put effort into it (Matt Groening himself has a good example of this with Fry), but it is nice to see something different for once. Female adult cartoon protagonist are rare to see as is, but to see one who is a teenager who is fun loving and adventurous yet is complex and relatable from her trying to find out who she is and what she wants to do with her life. She tries to do the right thing but is often distracted by bad habits like drinking and breaking rules (mostly because Luci tells her to do so). Even though it might seem to not be very different from his other shows on the surface it is actually very different in many ways and if you ask me that is a good thing. It might not be as funny as Simpsons or Futurama, but it has more well developed characters and a more in depth story than those two. As a whole I quite like this show and look forward to seeing more of it.
