Another year means another list of my favorite things in animation from that year. I am going to be honest and say that even though this year was pretty good for animation as a whole I am worried about the future of animation. Things like the cancellations at both Netflix and HBO Max, the fact that it is becoming almost impossible to make an original animation, and many animated movies relying on franchise appeal instead of script quality don't inspire confidence in the future of the medium. With that being said anime seems to be doing better than it ever has before with many new shows that are still able to reach massive audiences, but we will see how long that lasts. The fact that most anime studios overwork and underpay their animators are causing me to think that a strike is inevitable in the near future. That is a roundabout way of saying that corporations do want animated content, but they want it to be made as cheaply and corporately as possible (along with it being seen as expendable if they need to make cancellations to save money). Their are still many passionate animators in the industry, but there is a reason why many of them are leaving to make their own animations for the internet. As a whole I find it hard to be excited about the future of animation, but instead of thinking about that for any longer I am instead going to look on the bright side of things and recap my top ten favorite things in animation for 2022. Honorable mentions include Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie, Turning Red, The Bob's Burgers Movie, We Baby Bears, Tekken Bloodlines, Strange World, and Beavis and Butthead Do The Universe. I am also going to mention Chainsaw Man and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The last anime season of the year was packed and I didn't have enough free time in my schedule to watch everything that I wanted to so I only watched the first 2 episodes of Chainsaw Man and wasn't able to watch Cyberpunk: Edgerunners at all. This is because I was prioritizing My Hero Academia, Mob Psycho 100, and Spy X Family. With all of that out of the way let's start the list.
