Well, i love the colours, and the 'vibe' in this picture. Reminds me of the autumn and winter.

I use synthetic extentions, so mine aren't real. But the care is pretty much the same.
If it's natural dreading, and your are not adding synthetic extentions, palm rolling or back combing will do the trick. Natural hair will rat up easier with back combing and palm rolling.
Your scalp may feel itchy after dreading...wich is normal. I don't wash my hair too often, you need natural oils in your hair and skin. When your scalp is too dry from washing, it can get irritated. And get flakey.
Afrocare.com (I believe) has some stuff you can look up to help keep your dreads up. like conditioning sprays and shampoo.

dont use wax!! can make um go mouldy! and they can unravel if you stop using it! keep um as natural as possible, i've got a dreadhawk, nearly a year old, never used wax and they're doing swimmingly

yeah i used palmaid stuff that my skin friends use. it well i used it for a week. at this point what is there is there and my friend taught me this trick for the roots. separate the base then twirl the lock through.

dont do that to the roots! i know it neatens um up nicely and i've done it myself before but it can stop those bits dreading properly. grip the root between your thumb n forefinger (so your palm is virtually against your scalp) and rub in a circular motion. i dont really do anything to be honest, might just be cos i'm lazy but oh well i just let um do their own thing and pull um apart occasionally.

When I do braid in my extentions, I do it when my hair is conditioned and damp. Some people towel dry their hair and use dread wax.
I heard it did a good job. I don't know about aloe.
