this was actually one of my first attempts at calligraphy, so I drew the letters. Honestly I didn't get them all right in one shot, there were a few letters I had to rewrite several times .-. This quote isn't mine, it's from someone on Tumblr (link in the description)

And for those who talk about selfishness: is it selfish to take care of yourself? Is it love if you give so much and are beeing drained that you can't live your own life anymore?
Love is not sacrifice...love is warmth, love is where you don't need to give, because you as person is enough in itself by existing and caring for each other

To love is to sacrifice, so if you wont sacrifice then you dont really love do you.

It's good to be generous, but sadly there are many people in this world who will see your generosity and take all they can from you until you have nothing. I think this quote is referring to those kinds of people and how it's okay to set your boundaries so that you're not taken advantage of.

Its never selfish to set boundaries/take care of yourself/prioritize your well being above other people's convenience.... besides how can you give your best to other people if your hurt and broken from constantly giving to others despite what you feel? you cant.
Gotta love your self first too before you can really truly give your heart to others.Β Loving yourself might not be "Romantic" but more people sure as hell need to do it, self love and treating yourself good is important yo. Who gives a crap if its self centered? its not its a bad thing to care for yourself or prioritize yourself.

maybe how much you are prepared to give, and how much you are ready to lose depends on your affliction for the other person, but in any case i think a person should put others before them, and try to give others what they need and deserve, even if that means loosing something in the process.
i see why you would want to try and preserve what you have, but there is only so much you can loose. once you have no fear of loosing anything, you have the freedom of giving everything.
btw the romantic part was only implying that the message came across almost opposite of romantic, as self sacrifice is very common in love (i would take your pain for myself, i would die for you). the way you are thinking is probably healthier, but i still feel like is is... unpolished, incomplete.
