As she pulled the laces to her shoes tight, Avi winced. Her ankle was still extremely tender from the3 night before. She sighed and closed her eyes. Breathing was the key. But after five precious minutes of "breathing", her heart was still nervously fluttering in her chest.
"Are you ready?" her fathers voice called from down the hall. Avi shuttered at the sound. He didn't sound sorry for what he'd done to her. No, he sounded almost proud.
"Yes, sir," she quickly replied. If you made him wait, that made everything worse.
Before leaving her room, Avi grabbed her Jansport backpack and sweatshirt. She paused at the doorway, taking one last look at her room. What a discrase.
At first the car was cold but soom heat blasted from the vents. The ride over to Garfield High was silent. Avi didn't dare breathe a word.
Slowly, each class passed. The teachers didn't seem to notice the black and blue bruise forming along her collarbone. It wasn't like she was going to be blabbering to the whole world that her father...
Tears birmmed her eyes. Her own FATHER had done this. How ashamed she felt just then.
When the final bell sounded, Avi dragged behind. She had no desire to hurry home like all the others.
By the time she got out into the parking lot, the only vehicle left was her fathers. THis time she was not afraid to keep him waiting.
"So," he hissed, "what kept you?"
"A teacher wanted me to deliver something for her," Avi replied smoothly.
"Oh?" his eyebrows raised. "what was this something?"
"A permission slip to the office. THey've got some stupid field trip planned."
He snorted and pulled the car into traffic.
Avi undressed with caution. She could never tell where her father was lurking. She took off her shirt, revealing her breasts, and quickly pulled on a Hard Rock Cafe t-shirt. Instead of changing her pants also, she just shed the clothing away and slept in her cotton underwear. She then climbed into her bed, hoping that tonight she could catch some sleep. Her eyes drifted closed and her breathing slowed down.
A hand came out of nowhere and shook her body back to life. She gasped and sat up, reaching to turn on the light.
"No," her arm was grabbed and sloved back onto the bed, "leave it off."
"Dad, please," Avi pleaded," I need to sleep."
He chuckled, but it was a cruel laugh.
"I don't care," he whispered, reaching for her breast.
"Stop!" she screamed, struggling to get out of his iron grip.
Pain exploded in her left cheek. Avi cried out, hold her face now.
"More of that and it'll be the worst of you."
