Em... I guess I should expect a lot of negative comment on this one as it might appear gratuitous to most people, and I can understand this and the mis-understanding.

As well as photography, art, and writing, I am heavily engaged in science and presenting content on a major science site about biology, insects, living forms, etc.,

This image brings a wide range of diverse themes together to present a surreal idea. It also is part of my series exploring the reasons behind why so many teenagers and young people are self-cutting today.

A preying mantis emerges from the female's vagina where only a baby human should emerge and take its place in the world. Instead, a repulsive thing flows into the world, drawn out by another insect - bating it.

The female slashes at it with a knife, repulsed and horrified, her mind disengaged from the reality of her actions. She is yet unaware of the damage she is causing to herself through her desperate emotional fear of spawning something alien and not understood, and her single desire of wanting to exorcise the repulsive thing emerging from her.

Much of this image is metaphor, presented boldly, and with self-conviction of its powerful visual impact for a dark and disturbing trend in our midst.
