Description
My custom-made 13-month calendar that I would use in forums or on Facebook to illustrate the significance of months, seasons, and years. Each month has been named after a Tribe of Israel. The First Month has been named after Ephraim because Reuben just doesn't sound holy enough of a name. Often times, most of the time, Easter takes place on Ephraim and is one of the most spiritual holidays I ever celebrate, because it is always on the First Sunday after the First Full Moon after the Spring Equinox. I gave it Easter colors.
With April Showers comes May Flowers, people say, and Reuben is the Flowery Month including Mother's Day. It also includes Cinco de Mayo which might mean time for tacos and your favorite Mexican movie or activity, complete with hitting pinatas.
Simeon is the oddball month. Sometimes, since Star Wars came out on "May the 4th be with you, (pun intended probably)" Summer Blockbusters usually come out on Reuben, but often times, they come out on Simeon. The big holiday I find that takes place on the month of Simeon is Memorial Day. That's when blockbuster movies usually come out.
Levi is patriotic. It begins with Flag Day and includes the Summer Solstice, followed by Father's Day, followed by the Fourth of July. I guess because Independence Day is so close to the Summer Solstice along with Father's Day, people typically celebrate the holiday with fresh barbecue grills of hamburgers and hot dogs, typically at parks using pits. It is the month when vacations start to roll out.
Judah is typically vacation month. It is the time to go camping. From my experience, you can hike any time of the year, in any of the four seasons, but you would typically do it on this month because that's when it's usually sunny out and there are hardly any clouds, and it's warm. Ride roller coasters on this month. Okay, you can do that starting with the month of Simeon, but Judah is your last chance of opportunity for such a thing, or to ride a boat, or to go on any road trip or plane trip. It's your choice. Apparently, harvest season begins here, at least of certain species of berries.
Dan is the conclusion of summer vacation, so back-to-school sales show up on this month, as it also includes Labor Day usually. Absolute last chance for a typical summer vacation, although I recommend you get it done by the end of Judah because we aren't monguins and some activities like swimming at the beach aren't as fun on Dan because that's when things start to get cold. Also, with the conclusion of Summer comes the conclusion of Summer Blockbusters. Just as some movies come out on Simeon, some come out on Dan, usually the movies that are in competition with those that come out on Simeon. I'm looking at you, Disney/Marvel and WB/DC!
Naphtali is back-to-school month. If there is any memorable experience I had going back to school, it was the beginning of the season of American Football. I used to be part of the drumline in the band at that time, but now, I'm an amateur drummer and would enjoy all kinds of music genres from Cultural/World to Classical to Jazz to Rock to Techno. I still look forward to American Football as I'm also an amateur chef of party dishes including home-made french fries and pigs-in-the-blanket.
Gad is the hype of Autumn, and Halloween usually shows it very well. Halloween is the absolute last day of Gad just as it is the absolute last day of October. Perhaps the reason for the ghouls, pumpkins, ghosts, and witches and all that eeriness comes from the mood that we usually feel when we start to see darker days and colder temperatures, reminding you, "Winter is coming, brace yourselves." That was as Game of Thrones reference. Although, it is still warm enough at night to pick out your favorite costume to wear, so there's that.
Asher begins with All Saint's Day. Not as patriotic as Levi, but it does have Thanksgiving and Veteran's Day. I love Thanksgiving as it is my top favorite holiday, not just because of the food, but because it helps me to redevelop gratitude and to ponder about the concept of pilgrimage. Now, I consider Thanksgiving to be the positive side of Autumn, being that it is the season of the harvest, the season which the hard work you did in Winter, Spring, and Summer, especially Spring, pays off. Often times, as it concludes, the Holiday Season begins.
Issachar is Christmastime. It begins on November 29th which is always just a matter of days from Black Friday. While Winter officially begins midway throughout Issachar, you might want to start winter activities and sports on this month because this is when fresh snow begins to fall. You will never know how long there is going to be snow until, well, months later, whether or not the Groundhog sees a shadow. Apparently, Issachar ends the day after Christmas when the shopping is over and people continue to exchange gifts.
Zebulun typically begins with the start of the Gregorian New Year and includes or ends with the Chinese New Year. Not always, because sometimes, the Chinese New Year begins on Benjamin. As far as sporting events go, consider your time to make plans with more fun in the snow, whether it be snowmen or snowball fights as a kid or skiing as an adult. It's also the month of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It is the hype of winter in Zebulun.
Benjamin, like Reuben, is the month of love, but not as much for your mother this time, but rather for your spouse or your date. That's right. It's Valentines Day, but not until after we check on that groundhog to see if he saw a shadow this morning. By the way, because Groundhog Day with Bill Murray can be considered a romance as well as comedy, any time during the month of Benjamin is appropriate for watching that movie as it is also fitting for Valentines Day. Remember that if the Groundhog saw a shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter following that day. If not, there's going to be an early spring. This means that Groundhog Day is a forecast for whether Manasseh is to be considered a winter month or a spring month.
Manasseh is the conclusion of Winter and the start of Spring. This includes the Leap Year Day, February 29th, but in this calendar's rules, the Leap Year Day is to be the last day of the year and an extra day for Manasseh just as Ephraim has an extra day every year. The other months always have 4 weeks exactly. Are you the luck of the Irish? I hope you are, for St. Patrick's Day, not Christmas, in this calendar, concludes the year, as it is only 3 days away from the Spring Equinox.
