Lol. I'm still a mouse boy. One of my hotshot colleagues at work has this wacom thingy that's about 26inches, but it's a tablet monitor, so you can draw/model directly!! You must get you suck a contraption!!

A 26 Inch Cintiq? I'm jealous lol. Those things are great for digital artist but super expensive. For sure worth it but I'm way too poor for that lol. I'll have to stick to my mini Intous 4 for the time being Ah... One day..

Hehe, he's like some hotshot graphics dude here at work. He's got that thing, an alien powered mac, (that's how powerful it is, lol) and this color grading thing that looks like a dj mixer!! HEhe. But he's old already, so he's obviously saved up to get em!! You'll get your stuffs you need one day, don't worry.

Very cool image. What software'd you use?

Thanks a lot! I used a few programs for this. Most of the work was done in Maya (modeling, hairs and final renders) and ZBrush (texturing and additional detailing and character posing). Photoshop was used to comp my final renders together. Also, I used a program called Headus for UV layout.

I read your Art Blog, and your work is amazing and inspiring. I really like the model you made of your bf, and it has a great amount of detail! I'm also new to ZBrush and wonder if you could help me with something. I don't know how to paint different materials (rather than just different colors) on my models. I want to paint glossy/shiny eyeballs, but then have dry, matte-like skin, and I've seen folks do it, but haven't read a tutorial that could help me. (Sorry for the extra-long comment)

Glad to hear my work is inspiring others, makes me super happy to hear it I'm personally not familiar with whether different materials can be "painted" in ZBrush, you'd probably want to separate the objects based on them having different materials, your eyes and head should be separate anyway so you should be fine there and just apply the materials accordingly. I'm not sure what 3D package you're using besides ZBrush but I personally use Maya and there is where I do all of my material work, ZBrush (for me) is strictly used for painting the textures. For example, in my Cartoony Me I hand painted all of the texture maps and input them into the Maya's SSS fast skin shader which is great for skin, I always use it. Depending on the object you may need to paint a few maps beyond just the diffuse. Like when I do skin I have a few maps (diffuse, epiderm, subderm, specular, and depending backscatter and specular too) I'm sure whatever 3D package you'd use for rendering has something similar hopefully, I know 3DS Max is really great for skin also. People do render in ZBrush and get great results but I prefer to bring it back to Maya because I personally feel a bit more in control of the materials and lights and render settings there. Tutorials are must, Digital-Tutors and Gnomon are my personal faves and Gnomon has a free eye tutorial that you should check out. Good luck, let me know how it goes. Thanks for the great comments

Very nice!
The hair is painted or is it a plugin?
Maybe there could be a smoother transition between the hair and skin, and the thumb finger looks a bit odd to me...

Thanks a lot for the comment and critiques Grungefm. The hair was created using a plug-in for Maya called Shave and Haircut.
