Its good, but it seems more macabre than "dark" to me. And when you say dark, do you want it to look that way or just think it does? Anyway, the color of the skull is rich and goes well with your background. Anyway, when I look at this, I feel like picking up the skull and examining it.

this blows the fuck out of my first attempt at dark art. i love the use of the simple stock, it really gives a morbid and mundane overall feel, especially with the dark blood spots on the skull. nice use of texture overlay too. only irk is the layering over the background, the skull seems a little transposed. perhaps slightly blurring the edge by 2 or 3 pixels with the smudge tool would make it seem less placed. anyway, nice work!

fantastic dark art. its really great. the lettering is no doubt amazing. did a great job! really really like it. the subject, text, creativity. it is all clear and wonderful. no doubt sure of amazing. normally skulls are plain and simple. you've taken it to a new level producing a great rich textured/color feel. great work thanks for sharing

a great start in a new genre. i don't know how much you did to the skull, but it looks great. very nice color tones. the text in the background is very cool. it looks ancient or like something from an Indiana Jones movie
all i can read of the text is "the Holy", but it looks like there should be a story that goes with this...

i'm a pretty big fan of dark art, so let me just say bravo...
skulls are often overused and trite and in most cases i would tell people to stay away from them. that is because they don't know what they are doing with them.. hooray! because you do. this is a very nice composition. the color and condition of the skull are superb.
i don't have any negative criticisms of the piece but i have some suggestions if you are interested.
the tight space of the image makes me think i'm looking into a shelf/bookcase type thing (think a shelf divide by square grids). because of this i would like to see the piece with a border, like an old wooden frame or something similar.
the text (or textish) stuff in the background is a nice touch but i can't help but wonder how it would look if it were a little brighter or had a bright glow border.
last one i promise. i think i would like to see the text on the skull look like it was engraved. right now it seems kind of rubber stamped or maybe even floating.
anyway great piece, and i hope this was a little more helpful than just a "wow your awesome."

Beautiful job... I'm quite happy with this the way it is. Its not exactly what I'd have done but we are all different in how we picture things. I like how the skull looks far forward from the background (( say that a few times fast *L*)) It breaks the image up and makes you focus on the skull itself. Some kind of frame might just enhance the image totally.

Marvelous start! Very strong and the color choice is perfect I wonder if you could get rid of the black circle outline that is at the top of the skull so that the text runs into it like at the bottom

Ugh...that's one impressive skull. The writing on the forehead is nicely done, esp. the bottom line. The other two are not blended in equally well, I think, but I couldn't do it any better anyway.

It's a hell of a "first attempt". I would give more advice, but let's face it...dark art (or even art in general) is NOT my specialty.
. What i CAN say though, is that this is a hell of a nice work, and i think it looks great.

I love the power of this image, it goes beyond the use of a skull, which most would use in a shallow attempt to be βshockingβ. You have used with the perfect balance. Hats off my friend! Got to grab it as a fav.

this turned out well. love the texture on the skull. it's a little crooked (cock-eyed looks so funny when you write it out...) though.

FOr a first shot, this is pretty damn good. As for suggestions, bigger size. But my monitor is set on 1280x960, so maybe it's my problem. Also, there are a couple fo ways you can make the text look as if it's more molded to the skull if you're suing photoshop. let me know, because I don't feel like leaving a mini tutorial on your space here!

i like looking at the details of the skull the little holes around it the cracks. the words written add a nice effect to this, overall just very nicely done and the shadows look great.

You've done a pretty good job on this one.
few things tho:
~ I don't really like the typography. In the back (too blury and misplaced) or on the skull (It doesn't seem to blend. it just lays there, which distracts from the skull itself).
~ The large black scar on the top left isn't deep enough. It looks like a scorch. same goes for the one on the right.
Other then that It's pretty good, just ...like I said before. *smacks forehead*

this is cool! i love how the words are written across the forehead of the skull. well it's dark art, but not too dark, thats what i like about it, its not all disembodied junk, that's just gross art not dark, this is neato!

Good work, no doubt, but there are flaws nonetheless. The text on the skull needs work, though the font itself was a good choice. Try and make it look like it's a part of the skull. The text in the background looks a bit too blurry for me, but should definitely be there. In fact you have a few more things on the skull that are too blurry (some of the added cracks, and that red thing in the bottom left part of the skull). Especially because the skull itself stands out very sharp and well-defined... that broken part of the skull (at the bottom) seems a little too sharp for me. But it still looks nice though. Great first attempt at dark art.
