Thank you!!!! I can now crochet!

It took quite a bit of work; I had much more trouble learning to crochet than I've ever had with knitting. The part when you go back on the chain was very difficult for me until I went to my local librarian who helped me out.

Amazing, amazing tutorial. Please, please do more!

For anyone who doesn't want to go out and buy stitch markers (like me) the best substitute I have found is just a basic household bobby pin. I only use the markers for amigurumi and the like, but it's still very nice to know that I have two hundred of them sitting in a mug in my room.

moofestgirl In reply to THEmightyMAZ [2012-04-05 02:01:59 +0000 UTC]

I tried that, but I didn't like the fact that I had to ruin a bobby pin (an item I use A LOT for my hair) so that it wouldn't snag stitches when I pulled it out. Another thing people use is a piece contrasting color yarn. But I find that this leaves fuzzies all down the side that are in a totally different color. xp

THEmightyMAZ In reply to moofestgirl [2012-04-05 03:34:51 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I made the mistake of using red yarn when I was making a white ball...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

moofestgirl In reply to THEmightyMAZ [2012-04-05 04:00:45 +0000 UTC]

I did that with orange and blue... that's when I decided to get markers XD

THEmightyMAZ In reply to moofestgirl [2012-04-05 04:03:40 +0000 UTC]

Haha, how did you ruin your bobby pin?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

moofestgirl In reply to THEmightyMAZ [2012-04-05 04:27:05 +0000 UTC]

I had to pull it open a bit so that it wouldn't catch onto the yarn every time I pulled it out! It was pulling the stitch and ruining everything! x.x lol

hiro-chan28 [2011-11-16 17:14:07 +0000 UTC]

So I'm just wondering, how do you make these tutorials? Do you use photoshop or something?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

moofestgirl In reply to hiro-chan28 [2011-11-16 22:44:59 +0000 UTC]

Well, I use my camera and a wireless shutter remote to take the pictures, then I use photoshop to edit them pictures and put them into the setting. ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hiro-chan28 In reply to moofestgirl [2011-11-16 22:47:41 +0000 UTC]

Ah *disappoint* T.T I've been asked to do some crochet tutorials myself, but I don't have the photoshop. Back to the drawing board, so to speak. Thanks though! ^_~

moofestgirl In reply to hiro-chan28 [2011-11-16 22:50:08 +0000 UTC]

There are some free photo editing software out there, but none of them really do what PS does. It sucks when you can't directly help someone, but you can always direct them to a good source, that's what's great about the internet. ^^

hiro-chan28 In reply to moofestgirl [2011-11-16 22:52:21 +0000 UTC]

yes yes I've been looking around for good free programs until I get to buy PS for my college major. I'm considering though just making it in word and converting it to PDF.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

moofestgirl In reply to hiro-chan28 [2011-11-16 22:54:09 +0000 UTC]

That's always an option too!~ ^^ I like patterns and tuts that I can download as a PDF, it makes printing SO much easier xp I've been thinking about doing that with mine.

I just used my first acrylic yarn the other day, it feels so different... I'm not sure if I like it x.x

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

knittywitty In reply to moofestgirl [2011-08-09 00:09:27 +0000 UTC]

I use acrylic all the time, 'cuz it's cheaper. I like it fine.
But when I make something special... COTTON!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

moofestgirl In reply to knittywitty [2011-08-09 00:13:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it is cheaper, those Sugar n' Cream ones are $2 for not very much but $5 buys a HUGE skein of acrylic x.x I guess I just have to find a brand of acrylic that I like is all ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

knittywitty In reply to moofestgirl [2011-08-09 00:15:27 +0000 UTC]

I like Caron- you can buy a pound, which means I don't have to do any math! I think Lion Brand and Sensations also have 1 pound varieties.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

moofestgirl In reply to knittywitty [2011-08-09 00:36:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I dunno, I just haven't found an acrylic brand I like yet... I'm super picky x.x lol
I guess I'll have to go to Hobby Lobby and feel all their yarns XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

knittywitty In reply to moofestgirl [2011-08-09 00:39:53 +0000 UTC]

It's a craft store in the US. Kinda like Michael's but bigger, and like Joanne's but less fabric xp

moofestgirl In reply to knittywitty [2011-08-09 20:50:55 +0000 UTC]

Ahh yeah, that's how it used to be for me. I had to the middle of the next town over from me, which was about 45 minutes, but it was well worth it. Then after about a year of me doing that trip once a week they finally put on in my town, since it was becoming more city like, or what have you. You should do a store locator search on their site to see where your closest one is, it might not be too far, or on a rout you take all the time xp
