No, this isn't Kion getting caught in some situation that led to him de-aging. No, this is not what one's might want to call Kion Jr.

This is regular Kion. How is Rani and Kion different in age? Well, I'll answer.

In this alternate reality, Kion has been born far after the events that took place in the movie The Lion King II. He was born to Simba and Nala, but Simba promised that even though Kion is Simba's son by blood, that did not mean Kovu's Kingship with Kiara as his queen would be taken from him. How did Kion end up at the Tree of Life? Well, unlike getting a snake bite that left him scarred, like in the series, Kion was helping his sister Kiara with a Jaguar family. But as he was keeping the cubs company while his sister talked with their mom, he saw a big snake sneaking up on his sister. This was no ordinary Snake. This was Maacha the Python. And she had quite a mean reputation. He saw that his sister-in-law, Vitani, the new Lion Guard leader, was too far to help with her guard members and he dashed towards them. He had a enough speed and momentum to knock his sister out of the way, only to get himself cornered, and Maacha spat a secretion of sorts from her mouth. It wasn't venom that poisoned animals like most vipers in the Pridelands. This was a weapon she used to merely blind her prey so they had no chance to fight back once she coiled them. And Kion had just gotten a direct hit to his eyes after knocking his sister clear of Maacha's line of fire. Kiara and the mother Jaguar made quick work to deal with the python. Kiara only wished she had been faster, and Vitani arriving on scene cursed herself for not having her guard close enough to spot the approaching danger. Her keenest of sight member felt so guilty she had not been alerted by Maacha's presence. Kiara knew that they were not to blame. Maacha was one of the trickiest pythons in the kingdom.

After alerting Simba and Nala to what had happened to Kion, Rafiki informing them that the only way to remedy Kion's sight was at The Tree of Life, and with the Pridelands at peace, Simba agreed to let Vitani and her Lion Guard accompany Kiara and her little brother Kion to the Tree of Life. They had Kovu stay behind so that he could receive more training from Simba on how the Kingdom was ruled. The journey didn't take long, for Vitani had revealed that she had found a short cut to the Tree of Life, more by accident when she was younger. (Yes, the same route Assad showed them in the series.) She explained she was doing reconnaissance for Zira, trying to see if she could gather numbers for Zira's plan, and had stumbled on the pass. She had listened to what another Lion Pride had told many travelers at the pass what the Tree of Life was meant for, and at the time, had figured, based on what she heard, there was no help she could find there for Zira.

When Kiara, Kion and Vitani with her Lion Guard arrived at the Tree of Life, they were met by Rani and her Night Pride. At this time, Rani was Queen of the Tree of Life. Kiara explained her brother's situation, and Rani was more than willing to help heal Kiara's little brother, with Nirmala, the Pride's healer stating it would be a few days before they could provide a full remedy to help Kion with his sight, that also needed the healing powers of the Tree of Life itself. During that time, Surak and Balio showed the Lionesses around, including Kiara, while Rani, with Kiara's blessing, spent time alone with little Kion. With lessons given by both her mother, father, and grandmother, while she fully wanted to return Kion's sight, she wanted to teach him how to turn his handicap into an advantage, even if it was only temporary. She told him, "Forget what you've seen. What do you smell?" (Using a little line from Tarzan.)

Kion sniffed the air and replied, "Well, I smell you."

"Good start. What else do you smell?" Rani urged on.

Kion sniffed more carefully. "............ I smell........ a fruit...... it smells like...... Baobab," Kion answered.

"Ah, I see you are familiar with this fruit. We are near baobab trees. Now, when I stop talking, I want you to listen...... listen carefully to your surroundings, and after a few moments, tell me what you hear," Rani instructed.

Kion did as she said, and steadied his breathing to where it was barely audible and listened. He made sure he caught every sound he could. After a few moments, he stated, "I can hear birds. Not sure what kind....... I hear frogs.... off to our left. And I hear....... laughter. Other cubs..... or maybe pups...... and I hear....."

Kion's concentration was interrupted by his tummy growling. Rani laughed, "I'm guessing you just heard the roar of your hunger. But that was very good Kion. You see, right now I can tell that there are cheetahs running together."

"How?" Kion asked.

"I feel it in my paws," Rani answered. (Yes, I borrowed a line from Bambi II)

Kion shifted his paws a bit, not knowing lions were able to do that. "If you wish, I can teach you how to use your other senses more effectively, so you don't rely heavily on sight. You're already off to a good start. But if you wish to learn more, I am more than willing to teach you. But for now, let's get something to eat."

She carefully grabbed Kion by the scruff and carried him towards the Tree of Life, and after a meal, they decided to rest together. (As you see now.)
