A Comparison of Clow Reed's Magic Circle, as it is depicted in the "CardCaptor Sakura" 1998 Anime, AND in the "Cardcaptor Sakura 20th Anniversary Illustration Collection (artbook)" (an official Artbook), for the "CardCaptor Sakura" Manga and 1998 Anime.Clow Reed's Magic Circle, here, is orientated with the Japanese Kanji character for 'North' (北) pointed upwards, to match the Cardinal Compass Rose included. The significance of the Cardinal Points in these Magic Circles goes back to the concept of the "Watchtower" in European Ceremonial magic ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchtow… ).
Symbols description:
From the Kanji characters going around clockwise, they read:
北、東、南、西 - North, East, South, West
NOTE: Viewers will also notice that the symbols that are positioned within the 12 points of the 12-point star (comprised of 4 interlocking squares) don't match-up, rotated 1-space to the right/clockwise. Likewise, the unknown script along the inside of the circumference of the Magic Circle is rotated 1-space to the left/counter-clockwise.
