Clow Reed's Magic Circle, as depicted in the "CardCaptor Sakura" 1998 Anime.Clow Reed's Magic Circle, here, is orientated with the Japanese Kanji character for 'North' (北) pointed upwards, to match the Cardinal Compass Rose included. The significance of the Cardinal Points in these Magic Circles goes back to the concept of the "Watchtower" in European Ceremonial magic ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchtow… ).
Some of the characters (the non-Asian characters) in Clow Reed's Magic Circle are reminiscent of Ancient Greek ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_al… ), Hebrew ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebrew_a… ) and Alchemical ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alchemic… ). Others are hard to place.
