Critics have been overwhelmed by the artistry in this final masterwork from the brilliant animator and storyteller, Hayao Miyazaki. This is your opportunity to enter into his world and recast its elements into a final Tribute.

The three winning entries will be used on deviantART to promote the film's release. Each winning artwork will be made into a framed presentation print sent to Studio Ghibli in Japan.

He worked under the director Isao Takahata for scene planning and key animation for the production of "The Little Norse Prince Valiant" (1968). He then moved to the animation studio A Production with Takahata in 1971 where he worked on the original concept, screenplay, layout design and key animation for "Panda! Go Panda!" (1972). When you've been animating Iconic films for over 30 years, the only retirement is passing away. He won't be walking away from a beautiful and long career he's loved for this long.

The hype certainly boosts sales - and this is a brilliant contest. But can you imagine creating memorable films your entire adult life, only to stop one day? It's habit. It's in his blood.

He is Ghibli.

Best of luck to all who enter <3 I am a bit disappointed that this is limited to US and Canada residents only, as I was so happy at the thought of being able to share how much I love Hayao Miyazaki's films and stories. But you know, I'm not old enough anyway and don't have much time left
Glad to hear he won't be retiring! Super excited and looking forward to see his future films May he have many more wonderful years to come!! ^^

Can I just point out that this won't be Hayao Miyazaki's last film?

Read the Wikipedia page. He took back his retirement announcement back on New Year's Eve. And, it is the sixth time he has done so.

So stop freaking out, saying "I'm so sad it's his last film" "It sucks he's retiring", because HE'S NOT RETIRING! Do your research, please.

THIS IS NOT HAYAO MIYAZAKI'S LAST FILM!

www.vyralize.com/6318/hayao-mi…

" With Miyazaki officially out of his sixth retirement, ‘The Wind Rises’ will no longer be considered his last movie. We hope Miyazaki has another wonderful year (and many years to come)."

yeaaa I saw a new article that says 'although this is his sixth retirement, this time, everyone seems to be very serious about this.'

I also, personally, don't think he'll stop making films. He said his son had to make a name for himself. But then he goes and helps him anyway.

He loves making films. He'll still be on the sidelines. I don't think he'll be able to stay away.

Ahh I'm so excited to see this film, and at the same time heart broken it will be his last . I am such a huge fan of his work, Howls Moving Castle is my favorite of his films. In my opinion it's more of an art piece than movie. Every frame is simply beautiful. I wouldn't even know where to began with this contest.

Best of luck to all the enter, I look forward to faving a lot of entries. I know a lot of talented artist on here will enter!

When you say "No stock" does that include brushes downloaded from dA?

Licensed brushes and textures are acceptable as well as original assets from the Entrant's own work and visual elements from the Film.

I'm sorry if this had been asked before but the wording was a bit strange I just wanted to be sure.  I am a resident of US but not of Canada.  The wording to:
"Entrants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age as of February 21, 2014 to be eligible to enter the Contest and a legal resident of Canada, excluding Quebec, or the United States.."  Is that  in reference to the age of the entrant in Canada or does that mean anyone who isn't a Canadian citizen may not enter?  Sorry If this question is redundant or silly.

You must be a resident of Canada (not including Quebec) or a resident of the United States.

Alas, Quebec has some pretty ridiculous rules surround sweepstakes and the like. Stuff like having to allow the Quebec government to call off the entire contest if they feel like it.

MangaKidArt In reply to ??? [2014-02-23 16:22:26 +0000 UTC]

Moonbeam, I have a question I understand that submitting the exact same entry over again is not allowed, but is it ok if there are different 'versions' submitted of one entry? For example, a version with more detail and then a version with less detail. Or a versions with different combinations of the same images or colours. To be safe, I could just totally redo each art, but I'm wondering since I have an entry that I could tweak in different ways to create a Version 2, but I don't know if that is allowed?

OH, what a joke is this contest ???

" If a potential winner is a resident of Canada, such potential winner will may be required to answer correctly a mathematical skill testing question without assistance of any kind whether mechanical or otherwise to be declared a winner and be eligible to collect the prize" ... Are you just mocking people ??? My God ... Deviant Art become a joke ....

Dancing-Kitten In reply to zen-emma [2014-02-23 21:01:04 +0000 UTC]

Reading over it, it might be a legal thing? Because it might possibly seen as luck-based otherwise. In Canada, a contest where everyone has an equal chance at winning is considered an illegal lottery. I actually think most sweepstakes/contests in Canada ask you to solve a math problem wither when you enter or before you can claim the prize.

I would think DA wouldn't have to do it because it's a skill-based contest, but maybe they're just trying to play it safe?
