uh, yeah... the quality is ''totally'' not enougg... love the design and everything and you've got a darn good technique! But I have to agree Dhex! the scale of the dragons in the background feels, a little bit, odd compared to the dragon in the foreground.

to give the field even more depth, I would've used even brighter colors there, or even darker colors in the foreground to separate the field from the foreground. But hey, someone like you could easily notice that, you're a good artist and anyone can see that, colorblind or not!

Quality is very fine, striking illustration, very detailed and "aboutie" for a concept art !

I think this is really deserving of its DD. (: It's like those pictures where you can imagine an entire story and background for it. I love noticing all the detailing and all the perspective. The dragon certainly is well done! It gives off a very epic glow.

EPIC! love this.. really pro.
can't help but have this feeling that the dragon is going to eat his master up any moment. As a suggestion i think it would benefit if the beast was put into almost a "howling wolf" kind of pose or had its head facing the mountain city a little bit. Great epic work!

why in the world are you telling someone not to spend too much time on a painting???
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Vaxl In reply to shikkaba [2010-04-05 01:37:15 +0000 UTC]
Because you shouldn't spend too much time on anything.
You'll get hung-up, left behind, and frustrated. You'll never improve.

What is too much time though? Who's to say how much is too much? There are people who spend a year working on a single Flash animation for example, and it's really obvious while looking at them that they've improved during that time as from beginning to end, the quality changes in some parts.
not everyone gets frustrated just by spending more time on something.

"Too much time" isn't minutes or hours or months. "Enough time" is clearly finishing something.
Working too much will cost moral and the painting in some way, and you won't improve on other things that aren't in the drawing.
If I went through my gallery and fixed all the utter horror, I would not learn to draw any thing else than what I've already spent a good amount of time and effort perfecting.
...Haven't we just been repeating ourselves the entire time? Why don't we just agree to disagree, that some people can or no one can spend so much time on a piece that it becomes stressful?

if you're talking about painting, its how much you know that is gonna make the difference not how long you spend on it.

Vaxl In reply to Zounderth [2010-04-05 02:23:31 +0000 UTC]
You're taking this out of context.
If you spend too much time, whether that's five minutes on a gesture, or five months on an oil painting, you'll get too absorbed to do anything else.
You won't improve, you've got to move on or nothing is going to happen.

Zounderth In reply to Vaxl [2010-04-05 02:43:41 +0000 UTC]
sounds to me that its going to be a lot of different unfinished paintings, and still not improve.

Vaxl In reply to Zounderth [2010-04-05 03:05:10 +0000 UTC]
I'm not saying don't finish it...
I'm saying don't over do it!

You missed my point. I'm trying to explain to you what I meant. You took, "Don't spend too much time on it." way too literally.

Zounderth In reply to Vaxl [2010-04-05 06:11:30 +0000 UTC]
knowledge and skill dictates our time spent on a painting. its just weird to me for someone to say "Don't spend too much time on one painting". as i spent a lot of time learning what im doing right or wrong, so i'll improve more on my next one. Clearly this artist likes his paintings in detail, some don't, to each his own, but what you said is really out of context.
