She lives on the 10th floor of an apartment building and the elevator is out of service on a regular basis
Just made her last payment on that sweet sports car two months ago, and is now smaller than she is
She's allergic to horses.... hay.... oats.......

can be lots of reasons why they just refuse to volunteer. As the mad scientist involved put it, "being merely human is so overrated."
