Description This is the doll from The Labor of Beauty series, numbers 002, 003, and 005. This is long after I styled her hair, and she has now had her factory paint completely stripped with Winsor & Newtons brush cleaner, and had a total repaint by me, using liquitex acrylic paints. I didn't make her dress, but I dyed it with some darker oranges to deepen the tone; I'm still working on the dress, and after I've detailed it some more, I'm going to sew her into it.

This is the first posted picture of a doll in my "Blood Orange" series. Her new face painting and dress were very much inspired by the fruit, and the fruit inspired me to make a doll series because it reminds me of what is so loved by dolls;

"Blood" as in the life-giving liquid for living things, appears to be in the "veins" of Blood Oranges, but it isn't actual blood, it just looks like it. Equally, we can paint and style and blush our dolls into an imitation of humanity, but they're just not quite there, they don't have "real" blood in their veins.

It was also a perfect choice for the beautiful range of tones and tints of the under-rated orange, from a bright standard orange to a deep, dramatic red, to a bright glowing yellow. It can be cool, when the reds have purple undertones, or warm, when the oranges have yellow undertones, and it makes for a good challenge as a doll designer to keep each doll in the line from fading into the background, and to keep from losing each one's individual charm.
